Does anyone know if either the Analog Four or the Monomachine have the function to skip active steps? So for exampe if your pattern has 16 steps, you can skip step 2, 6 and 11.
An example of what I mean is shown with an SQ1 in this video.
Any help is appreciated!
I posted the message below in the Monomachine forum
It could be as simple as
Hold MUTE + REC to enter Skip Active Step mode.
All steps with yellow LEDs are the active steps, and all steps that are off could be the steps being skipped.
If you want to know how something like this plays out, you should really take a look at the video from the opening post. Besides the Korg SQ1, this feature can also be found in the Volca series and the Korg Monotribe.
This feature can be found in hardware 1/10th the price of Elektron gear. Surely there must be a way to implement this with a simple update.
From the manual-
TRIG MUTE
The TRIG MUTE menu makes it possible to add mute masks on a per trig basis. Each track can have its own
trig mute trigs. Open the menu by pressing [FUNCTION] + [BANK A/E].
THE SEQUENCER
38
Select the track to which you want to add trig mute trigs by pressing the corresponding [TRACK] key. While in
the TRIG MUTE menu, entered trigs will mute any trigs placed of the active track, given the trigs are located on
the same sequencer steps.
⢠Trig mutes can be quickly added to note trigs or trigless locks. Keep the note trig or trigless lock
pressed and press [BANK A/E]. A trig mute trig will automatically be placed on the same
sequencer step as the note trig/trigless lock.
⢠Press a note trig/trigless lock to quickly see if a trig mute trig is placed on the same sequencer
step as the trig. If that is the case, the <BANK A/E> LED will light up.
⢠Trig mutes are good for experimenting with the feel of tracks when playing live. The last eight
steps of a bass line track could for example be muted to build suspense.
when i think it through, it does not strike me as simple at all, conceptually simple, sure, but in terms of delivering it in the context of the rest of this sophisticated sequencer i would argue it is very far from simple imho - nice though it would be to have - price has f all to do with it

It would work in a similar fashion, but the main difference being would be that with āSkip Active Stepā, the steps highlighted would not be muted, but skipped entirely.
If I had my way (which I never will), Iād make it so that the ordinary action of removing a trig acted more like āmaskā in which the underlying values are not lost. In that way once youād spent time defining actions for a step, you would only clear everything by an explicit action. The Elektron way works well for percussion but feels a bit awkward for putting in sequences. IMHO. In this way, the existing mute function (which feels a rather clumsy way to achieve a simple thing) could be reassigned to something more interesting, such as skip. Of course the step sequencer tradition of the Moog 960 and ARP 1621 are a long way from where we are and both have their strengths and weaknesses⦠but if you took away p-locks, Elektronās sequencer becomes really quite ordinary. Iām amazed the A4 canāt even do different clock ratios per track⦠hopefully once all this OB stuff is out of their system they can back to functional improvementsā¦
Oh, Iād also reverse the current action of mute and select so that you could quickly mute and unmute with the track keys and to select required Function. But I have these wacky ideasā¦
