To me Terry Riley is like the papa of modern beautiful simplistic… that said maybe simplistic is the wrong word, minimalistic repetition ends up drawing out complexities in a way. The brain starts to analyze things on a different level almost.

I could make a whole playlist of just Boards Of Canada songs like this, it’s some of my favorite of their songs.

thing is… i’d call none of these BOC songs “simple”.

Naghachian -dawn of emptiness
Kind of an edit. Simplistic i‘ m not sure, but beautyful.

Just saw now that Ramin Naghachian passed away in march. Hes rests in peace for sure. :notes::sunny:

There’s nothing quite like this Raymond Scott piece. It’s definitely an anomaly for its time.

I first heard this uncredited at the end of a stonesthrow podcast about 10 years ago.

There’s something so simple and rough about it that I’ve always really enjoyed. One of those songs that reminds me of the process of making music. The rough bit where you make something which really feels special, and can often get lost when you try to make it more ‘professional’. Such an expressive and pure an track.

I’m often so indecisive, yet this came straight to mind…
