Hi guys,
after some months i finally got to have a quite good setup and now i was trying to think about an optimal routing between the machines:
Motu 828mk2
Analog Rytm
Analog Four
Monomachine
Arturia Microbrute
Alesis Midiverb 4
I’ve also a Yamaha AN200 and a SammichSID, but i think that i’ll not integrate into this setup.
Actually i don’t have a mixer, so, everything is sent to the motu 828, only the microbrute is routed to the monomachine, so the rest of the 3 stereo outs go to 6 motu 828 inputs. The midiverb still needs to get his place, as not having a mixer i’ve to put as direct effect of one of the instruments, probably the microbrute.
I was thinking that the first device, before 828 and PA should be the Rytm due to the compressor, so the rest will come before it.
The thing would be something like:
Microbrute controlled by Monomachine midi or Analog Four CVs.
Microbrute OUT to Monomachine IN
Monomachine OUT to Analog Four IN
Analog Four OUT to Rytm IN
Rytm OUT to Motu 828 IN
Yes, i tought too for a mixer, but i don’t know which one would be better, if a Mackie or an Allen Heat or another one…
But in the meantime i would like to try a mixerless setup, i need to save money before thinking on a mixer. (Although the 828 is kinda a mixer)
You have a lot of expensive instruments that you are probably not using to their full potential if you do not have control of the mix between them. You will make your setup less flexible if you chain the main outputs of the gear in the way that you seem to be proposing.
I don’t know the MOTU 828 Mk 2, and you don’t say whether you are using any software on any computer that is connected to the 828. Had you thought about using some software to mix the output from the three Elektron instruments and maybe even to send sound to the MIDIverb?
Hi Peter, well, honestly i’ve sold all my software licenses to fund hardware stuff because i was tired to being in front of a monitor, i work all day long with a pc, so, in spare time i prefer have fun with hardware only.
I still have Ableton live with Push controller, i’ve always used the motu 828 as sound card, it have 10 analog balanced inputs, and through ADAT and a Behringer ADA8000 i could add another 8 inputs… but then i would prefer to work with a classic mixer with all the “benefits”.
With a mixer i can have all the faders, the EQs, send-return and other stuff that i don’t have with the Motu, that of course would be fine for DAW multitrack recording.
BTW, i don’t know which mixer could be the better one for my stuff, and i’ve to save bucks in order to buy it, so actually i’ll have to go with the signal chaning i’m afraid.
And i’ve tought about the Rytm as last ring of the chain because of the compressor.
