Side panels, end cheeks, rack mounting help needed

wow! both look nice

iam not so much into the round edges style but they look beautiful.

i built the cheeks last weeks, but then started to build a minimoog styled ipad controller (http://inevitablecraftslab.wordpress.com)

after that i found out that i need more space on my desk and decided to make a doublestand, where the bottom machine has around 45degrees angle and the top one is vertical 90 degrees.

looks more like a modular and takes less space then a single flatmounted machine.

also if i do other stuff i can take them at once and put them away without unplugging everything.

i will probably build a wallmount to hang it like a picture, 20pounds isn lightweigt though

@inevitablecrafts

that ipad controller looks pretty cool. What did you use for the keyboard/keys?

@glaciertree: an akai lpk8, and yes i know its crappy as hell and no modwheels etc

but for me it was like “oh yes i will buils that, lets take the cheapest components and try it out” also its the smallest somehow playable keyboard around

if i would build it again i would probably take the line6 key25 because of the wheels or a qunexus for style and functions

i made a thread in the “no elektron hardware” section of the forum

Well, I like wood cheecks on synthesizers… I did some for my Mopho, Roland MC-303, Korg MS-20 Mini, Prophet '08 and my Yamaha CS-15, which makes this vintage diva stunning.

But I didn’t made some for my A4, because there are some ventilation slots on both sides!

I fear, this kills my beloved A4 when I add some nice wood cheeks (Btw. In this case I prefer Wenge, which is nearly black by nature http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Millettia_laurentii), which complete stops ventilation. Same for DSI Tetra.

So, what’s your opinion? If someone from the Elektron staff reads this, what do you think I should do?

Someone else please confirm this, but I think the official word is that’s fine to cover the side vents as long as the bottom vents are left uncovered.

Hi.
I’d like to know, too.
I am considering building some wood panels, and i wish i could get some feedback from users about the possible issue if covering the ventilation holes …

To the wood cheek designers…

How about drilling a few holes in the wood cheeks to allow ventilation?

Or cut some slick design for the vents- or just do the //// or |||| cuts.

If the wood panels mean that much to ya, make it happen.

what is that screen protector i see in some of the shots? Specifically the A4.

I am building DIY side panels for my AR.
Can anyone please confirm:

  1. The length between the center of the mounting holes is 116mm.
  2. The mounting holes is 30mm far from the edges and 16mm far from the top of the unit.

Millimetric in Montreal, Canada just made me two sets of beautiful wood panels for my Octatrack. I originally just wanted regular sides, which he did, but then he also came up with the idea for a more classy enclosure type panel, which turned out beautiful as well. He is extremely nice and easy to work with, will work with you on any type of design, angles, type of wood and stain colour, etc. that you want. He even made trips to the local music store to take measurements and check everything against a real Octatrack, since I’m in Colorado and he’s in Montreal. And his prices are as fair as mass produced sides but this is pure custom work he does all himself by hand. I also got some sweet Minibrute wood sides which he already had a design for that I really liked, and I’m sure he’s willing to do work for other instruments. Can’t give him high enough praise!

These look really cool! Are you still making them and selling on eBay? How can I find you there? Would love to check these out - and I know some others that are interested, as well. Thanks.

Sorry, that last comment was directed at Flat.

I believe this is more of his work…

Got these Walnut ones available now.

Hey ,

I made end cheeks and stands for Elektron gears
http://www.zerack.com/en/

with the opening or the protective covers

Very nice work Zerack!

I can vouch for the quality of Flats work. I have two sets of his wooden end-cheeks and recently bought a two-tier MDF one from him - they are all superb.

Having the machine at an angle is much more comfortable and easier to read. It’s amazing how much difference it makes having two machines arranged vertically too. It might not suit everyone but I find I work a lot faster. Takes up less desk space too.

Thank you Howard !
You make a really beautiful work too !

Thank you guys. Most kind.

I’m building a DIY enclosure for my OT mkii and I’m looking to confirm these dimensions!?
