So. I am ready to pull the plug on a Digitone 2 and a Dreadbox Nymphes, both 2nd hand. I gather I can get both for 1000 euro. They would complete my monophonic setup (DT2 + dreadbox Typhoon). I just sold my circuit tracks, behringer 303, Roland aira s-1, and Syntakt, so I should be good to go, however…
I am not that big a fan of FM synthesis. And i love the sound of an analog filter on my poly’s.
Why i want this setup then? We’ll, the Digitone 2 (chord) sequencer, paired with the analog beauty that is the Nymphes, which then uses the DN2 reverb + chorus seems like a match made in heaven. Also, i do like what I see from the FM drum workflow and the wavetone + swarmer combined with the Dreadbox seem like a perfect do-it-all combo (especially paired with the DT2.). And who knows, maybe I’ll learn to love FM synthesis on the DN2.
Counter point:
Maybe instead of the DN2 I should get a really great polyphonic sequencer and then buy a more capable polyphonic synth, as I already have the DT2 which can handle drums and samples.
So, Elektronauts, what would you ideal polyphonic addition be to the DT2 + Typhon? Budget ~1000 euro, 2nd hand is absolutely an option.
Would you want to operate more than one sequencer at the same time?
On the other side: Digitone 2 is a polyphonic, multitimbral synth, there aren’t many - not only for fm like you mentioned. It’s more than fm, thats for sure. You can’t do wrong with it.
Normally I wouldn’t want to operate more then 1 sequencer at one time, which I never needed with the DT2. But the DT2 does feel very limited when handling polyphony (4 note max, nonchord mode, no arps)
But as long as I have this strict division between monophonic sequencers and synths vs the polyphonic part of my setup I could see it working (especially with the DT2 & DN2 and their similar workflow)
I think this is a good price.
DNII is not only FM.
And FM is more than glass sounds.
You might actually discover whole new soundscapes with these two ^^
Bear in mind that 4 note max is only for one midi track, and you can have multiple midi tracks sending to the same synth…
I use the DNK an Octatrack to control my Dreadbox synths. No Midi ARP on DN, which is nothing short of a crime if you ask me…
Lately though it’s been the good old DNK that’s been blowing my mind. Man oh man… the sounds you can get from that thing…
Also, layering sounds between the analog poly and the digital FM poly is a whole other universe of sonic playground.
