Shield Tracker

Hi,

in my free time I’ve started working on a tracker with the goal of using it in my live performances. For now, the Steam Deck is the primary platform for it but it can also be run on linux. The tracker is still in an early alpha state and I still have a long list of features I want to add. It is perfectly usable though and I’m happy to share this early version with the community!

Nice! Although, I don’t have a steam deck this looks pretty cool!

Do you plan to make it open source? Will you port it to other platforms?

for now it will stay closed source but I’m not fully opposed to the idea of eventually open sourcing it either.

It works on desktop Linux. A mac port is possible in the future, though I currently don’t have time to work on it.

Wow! Fantastic! I’ve been thinking about this for some time - seems like such a no-brainer but apparently the number of people who 1) own a steam deck, 2) want to run a tracker on it that uses its buttons and joysticks and 3) can program trackers is smaller than I thought.

Luckily it turns out there is at least one such person out there - you!

Will follow this project with interest, thanks!

Super excited to see this!

I’m a dev myself and would be happy to contribute if you decide to open the source at any stage. As a Mac user I might be able to help with porting.

I’m currently writing a hobby game engine in Clojure and have spent a good deal of time programming C++ in Unreal Engine.

Thanks for sharing and writing actual documentation!

I like the concept, the only thing that confuses me is the very small font. To be honest, page-by-page scrolling would be much more convenient. For example, as it was implemented in the same impulse tracker.

The tracker builds muscle memory and the interface should not be an obstacle to this.

plus it would be useful to add the ability to collapse tracks and turn off visualization of unused tracks, since it’s all visual garbage.

Just saw this and wondered is this project still being worked on?
