I don’t think I’ve mentioned on here that I am an ancient Roman history and coinage geek, but I just took this photo of a new arrival and thought I’d share.
This is Maximinus II, aka Maximinus Daza or Daia, and it’s a less common variety with an interesting reverse legend which translates to something like ‘to the good and dutiful Genius of our Emperor’. Genius here is something like the guiding spirit, or divine spark.

It’s crazy how well preserved something 1700 years old can be, especially if it went into the ground in reasonable condition and the soil wasn’t too acidic.
This particular coin has a bit of wear from circulation on the high points, and the patina is quite thick with a fair amount of hard encrustations and verdigris, but it’s an attractive thing in its own way.

Realized today when recording my Virus TI2 and Hexdrums a few things:
- My crappy mixers are the weak point in my studio chain
- Levels are too soft on my Virus TI2 to DAW (Virus → Keith McMillen K-mix mixer-> RME Babyface audio interface)
- Hexdrums sounds massive and crushing! Had to dial down so it did not drown out my poor Virus!
So my mixers are old and weak. I need a god tier studio mixer! What do you recommend? My old ones that I bought years ago are showing their old teeth and weakpoints.
