Setup Advice - OT or MPC or DT+Simpler

man sampling back & forth between the dt and the mp and then exporting to Ableton sheeeeeit

mmm yeah i can see that workin. Got one hardware synth as well that i can exploit; even tho its not multitimbral.

is chopping mode in the MPC very different from slice mode in the OT? not an MPC guy, so forgive me if a dumb question…

:pensive:

The gift of the OT. It’s like having a new instrument constantly for years.
Don’t get me wrong I love the immediacy and plug n play workflow of the MPC (I have an older one) and I use both at times but the OT is way deeper I think.

now that i DO like. OT seems like it has the balance between “creativity in limitations” & “endless possibilities”

as long as you get them from some place you can test them out, you won’t have a problem you really can’t go wrong.

May i ask; how do you export tracks youve made on the OT? On the DT if i were to make a simple beat i can just use OB and multitrack it. With the OT; how does that work with Ableton>?

MPC Live + Digitakt = Winning

if you mean taking a 1 bar loop and cutting it into 16 individual sections and playing them individually, yes. Again, i havent gotten too deep into the OT. Just wasnt my thing.

Someone on this fourm in some other thread described the OT workflow for me perfectly. Went something like “it feels more like debugging software than making music”

gotcha. yeah it definitely has that. can do 16, up to 64.

So I actually don’t track anything out of the OT (nor use a DAW) - it runs into a mixer channel and I record 2-track straight from that. If I wanted to though I could send 4x tracks out simultaneously (main & cue outs) and monitor OT output from headphones.

yeah…same thing. You can do both destructive and nondestructive chops.

Also can chop in real time:

these two clips let you live vicariously through Jay Hosking and Voltage CntrlRtv and feel a bit of workflow vibes…
It’s good as at the time Jay wasn’t very versed in the ways of the mpc one but you can see how easy it is and good enough for him to lay his foundation down with it… you could imagine if he was as familiar with it as he is with the Octatrack what more he might have done… and then you can see what he does with the octa and where he takes the music with it…

in my opinion what you see on the mpc in the clip Is what you get, but the octatrack work he did was more the result end of some workflow that wasn’t shown, in other words the octatrack stuff wasn’t ‘from scratch’ as much as the mpc work was, the video would have been longer so that is something to keep in mind…

voltage contrlr…shows the vibe of the octa/digitakt with the very palatable reasoning behind it of someone coming from an mpc background and applying that reasoning to the elektron workflow…

I saw the Vid with both the MPc and Octa and its very interesting. The MPC functions more like a production thing where the octa is … just everywhere honestly. expanding on an idea so to speak. I can imagine that you can get lost in the depth.

Well now I’ve narrowed it down to two paths. In both the Tone goes, (any dutchies interested, PM me).

The Digitakt stays for sure; as does the minilogue.
Then I will add the MPC One / live 2 (not seeing that much upside on the live 2, not going to need it to be that remote.
OR the Octatrack. Which honestly is a device that is just constantly in the back of my head, I know I will eventually try one. I come up with enough downsides to put me off but then i reach a crossroads I’ve got now… The jonwayne vid got me interested but then again you can do that with the mpc one just as well and its 500 eur cheaper.

interesting stuff for sure and pretty cool to see a 10 year old device stand the test of time so well.

The Jay Hoskin performance on the OT is insane :fire:

Just wait a bit more before deciding what to buy. One day the choice will be an evidence.

Damn ive had alerts on the OT for weeks and weeks and now one pops up for 890 EUR. Thats a steal IMO since they are normally around 1000.

Yeah it seems like its not being updated as frequently as it should. I looked at one second hand and the guy just messaged me that I can have it for 700 EUR (listed for800) which is another sign of that thing not being too popular.

890€ for a MKII ? Yeah that’s a good deal. Maybe it’s a sign
