I have a little midi issue where I found in the manual that in the grid recording it shall be possible to hold a trig key and press a note on an external keyboard to set a note.
I can’t get this working on my setup.
I have:
Digitakt (DT) Version 1.11
Arturia Keystep (KS) clock set to midi (white switches)
Connection: KS (midi out) -> DT (midi in)
On track8 a sample is set and with the keyboard the midi channel is also 8 so I can hear the cromatic play of the sample using the KS. Now the grid recording mode is entered with pressing record, then I hold the e.g. trig1(KICK) to set the 1st step of the sequence and press a note on the KS. The note is ignored and instead there is the default note enabled on the 1st step.
On pressing FUNC and twice trig1, it appears lighting yellow. When I now hit the KS the note is not played. With pressing the tri1 the color changes back from yellow to red and the sequence is played once with the new note. When the sequence is repeated, the note jumps back to default without pressing anything. I found this very confusing, do you hava an idea?
I do not want “live recoding mode”, because I am a keyboard beginner and want to modify my wrongly played notes.
Try using the auto-channel on the DT instead of the track channel. So instead of making the KS send midi on channel 3 you set it to send midi on channel 14. Now the midi notes you play on your KS will follow your selected audio channel.
I found it in the manual page 22 below 8.5 modes and in chapter 15.3.3. In my opinion it would better be named “AUTO TRACK” instead of “AUTO CHANNEL”, because the keyboard on the selected channel is routed automatically to the active track isn’t it? Maybe it would be a good setup-example for the manual in a later version.
