Sequence the sequencer of an Elektron?

Can you somehow sequence the sequencer of an Elektron machine? I want to apply stuff an Elektron can’t do!

For example make a 4 track pattern on Digitone or Analog four, attach a sequencer to let Elektron go into random or forward/backwards sequencer behaviour? So this sequencer responds on all tracks of an Elektron simultaniously?
For example Euclidian hardware sequencer to all tracks pre programmed sequence in an Elektron? Or is the Elektron just acting like a soundmodule then?

This. There is no way to control the stepping of the internal sequencer beside standard midi clocking and transport control.

thx for your fast reply, Other idea: A4 or DN does not have indiv track speed, does there exist a way to let them run on indiv track speed?

Would be nice, but sorrily another “no”.

grrr guess I just want too much of expressional weirdness in my music

You can do crazy sequencing stuff with OT. You can play audio and midi tracks independently from sequencer, with external midi note control.
You can control audio tracks with midi tracks, with their (random) arps and many lfos.
You can play a sliced loop with an lfo, and reverse slice order, make it faster / slower.
Endless possibilities.

yes I know OT but I think for me it’s the most difficult and highest learning curve of all Elektrons! I don’t want to buy another Elektron machine except for the Monomachine (already have MDmk1, A4mk1, and that buggy DN) Elektrons aren’t machines to play drunk or stoned  you have to constantly think about everything or you mess things up in ways you don’t want. And the different architecture, different sequencer functions, different button functions, omitted options, … per machine are causing me sometimes pain in my head when playing multiple Elektrons!

If you’re constantly drunk or stoned of course you can have wtf moments with OT! :joy:

From what I read, Monomachine seems to have interesting sequencing possibilities with its arp. Don’t know much about it.

DN is still buggy?

About DN, It’s my second machine, first one had hardware issues with Lfo page glitching out without touching the machine, it crashed/freezed a lot, had wobbly knobs,…
Second machine had luckily only one crash during almost 3weeks of intensive use, but the more I use and the deeper I go, I encounter weird behaviour/bugs.

Yesterday had incoming audio on a pattern, switched to another pattern I heard the incoming audio but the faders L and R were closed at 0 volume?

I had sometimes hanging notes when I played 9notes at a time, yes it’s 8 voice, but it should only play 8 and not hang!

Had my first crash when making a pattern with soundlocks on every track, fill, conditional trigs, p locked soundlocks, had to powercycle to get out of the crash/freeze!

I think you can normally do page + yes to keep hearing your fill, but that suddenly stopped working, maybe that was my fault/user error, don’t know.

Ever heard of the DSP boot error, the forum is full of it, also more and more people reporting crashes/freezes on latest 1.10firmware happening even without anything midi attached!

I’m simply done with the new way Elektron goes! Making boxes with false marketing strategy about OB marked on their boxes, bringing ‘beta’ machines to the market at high prices, shipping out boxes with different problems, freezing, bricked mk2’s etc. What was once a ‘boutique’ and respectable brand is losing multiple buyers! It was a big revelation for me when I bought my first Elektron, such a cool, intuitive and expressive sequencer but I lost the trust in new Elektron machines!

maybe someone knows this wouldn’t work, and it’s something I would never do or try, but I think technically you could use songmode/arranger of MDUW/OT to do this (perhaps also A4/AR but I don’t know their features), by sending MIDI song position pointer information from your external sequencer. You would lay out every step of your patterns individually in the arranger/songmode. You get 256 rows on OT/MDUW so you could access up to four 64-step patterns this way. Then you have to write a program/sequence for your external sequencer to send the proper song position messages for the sequence steps you want to access; you would then be able to access each step of each pattern completely independently in a dynamic fashion. it’d be pretty nightmarish :joy:

haha! if anyone ever tries this please let me know

edit: just realized my scenario is complicated somewhat by the fact that MDUW (and OT maybe?) has a minimum arranger row step length of two - this could be worked around by using twice as many patterns and storing your steps as 1/8 notes though
