I currenlty have my AK on the desk, but need to move it to a keyboard stand. I’d rather have it on the desk, but for space and ergonomic reasons, it’s gotta move.
I’ve never really used a keyboard stand before, except a cheapo one with a cheapo keyboard when I was a kid. How do people secure their expensive keyboards on to the stand?
I checked some out, and it appears you can use straps, but the keyboard needs special holes on the bottom (some Yamaha do.)
I was hoping that maybe the stands would have a ‘lip’ or something to stop the keyboard sliding forward, but I can;t really find ones that do.
Is there any other way pother than straps?
If anyone has any pointers, that would be appreciated. Also, If it’s adaptable to add another tier for another keyboard in the future, that would be a massive bonus.
Cheers
I don’t have an AK so I can’t speak in regards to methods of strapping it down to a stand. I currently use something like this
The rubber ends keep the keyboard in place and at least don’t allow it to slide around. I’m not sure if you would really need much more than that unless you are really rocking out on that thing. The second tier shown is smaller but similar to mine and the little lips on the bars keep my bulky MS 2000 from falling on and most likely destroying my Roland JX-305. The smaller second tier shown in the picture is nearly the same as my third and can hold a Casio CZ-101 without a problem.
All of my synths are heavy enough that I don’t really have any issues with putting too much weight on either side to tip them off the stands but a MIDI controller might be too light.
There was a video of BT performing live and he had a keyboard mounted on a giant spring so he could bounce the keyboard back and forth all over the place. If you are trying something like this then you might just need to get creative.
Thanks for the reply. That’s the kind of ting I was thinking of, but I was just wondering if a keyboard would slip around without anything to hold it in place. The 2nd tier has some lips to stop a keyboard from coming forward, but there’s nothing on the main section. Maybe those little rubber tubes at the ends grip on the keyboards somehow?
Yes the rubber grips on both ends should stop the keyboard from moving around unless significantly tipped to one side. Some of these can typically be slid up and down the bar as well so you can adjust where they sit under the keyboard. I have also seen some that can’t move so keep an eye on that.
I will be getting an AK delivered today and might be swapping out my first tier keyboard for this. I’ll let you know how that turns out but my first tier does let me slide the grips from the front to the middle so this should not be an issue for me.
I have both one of those double x stands (not 2 tier) and an ultimate apex (2 tier). The rubberized grips do a good job of keep everything from moving around. I don’t have an AK, so I can’t comment on that, but I have never had an issue with 49-88 key stuff moving around.
