I’ll second the DOD Rubberneck. I bought 2 and have them cross patched using the inserts. I think they sound awesome on mono synths (I use with Monologue, MS-20, Erebus, Nyx).
I second the Midiverb II (x2 in fact)
This one is only ever used on this preset:
Also second the Boss RV-5 modulate setting that makes almost anything sound better, Boss DD-6 which has killer reverse delays (which I run into one of the MVII’s) and any distortion by RML is heavy as f*ck.
But the ultimate bang-for-the-buck effect: the cheap and cheerful Monotron Delay.
(BRB, going to go buy another Rubberneck)
Your B&W’s make me want to buy stuff!
I can wholeheartedly recommend the Drolo FX Molecular Distruptor
A DSP multifx unit that you can have loaded up with 16 fx of your choosing.
They sell out pretty quickly when available
So awesome, but rarely cheap…
OP said he doesn’t want to spend lots of money, and you throw out a suggestion that’s $1100 USD for two pedals…that’s cruel haha. That being said, I have a BIM and just sold my BOUM, and looking for a BAM.
My alltime favourite ”weird” pedal is the Boss SL-20 Slicer (around 120-160€ second hand). Boss has done multiple versions of that on their multi-fx but they’re always very simplified and limited versions. I have to get the original SL-20 back ASAP.
I was going to say Rubberneck also, you can find it for nearly half price new if you look around!
I was always super interested in this pedal since it came out. Are the preset patterns a bit annoying and gimmicky after a while, or does it do its thing in a really pleasing way each time. Also, excuse my laziness in not RingTFM, but can it accept midi clock or is it tap tempo only?
What the hell are these? Never seen them before. They both look hella expensive tho!
Looks like 350-400€ a pop!
Good choice
I sold mine after a few months, when I totally recreated the effect in my DSI Rev2. Though, I had to use almost every mod slot.
Love it. DOD made some very odd pedals during the nineties. I miss them.
EHX is a current manufacturer who can make some fun unexpected stuff. The Microsynth, VoiceBox and Mel9 reward imagination and I found things I can do with them that aren’t on the label.
Then there was alway Metasonix ready to take things too far…
If you ever find one of these, it’s pretty interesting as a send (mono in > stereo out). Distortion, chorus, slap back delay, and EQ.
The REV2 was always on my “I need to buy that thing” list, but recently prices went up like crazy and I already have a Mopho keyboard and a Toraiz AS-1 that are feeding my Nord Stage 3 if I want polyphony, so idk… maybe in the future if I’ll find one module cheap enough
I like Dwarfcraft too for weirdness. And I’m on a waiting list for an acid screamer for my Avalon…
It takes midi clock which is great. There’s so much options that the preset patterns never get old. The harmonic presets at the end of list especially are great, a bit like arpeggiator or something. All the later iterations on Boss Multi-Fx are really limited and boring. (I have the slicer on my GT-Pro and on my SY-300 Guitar synth.) There’s only three parameters on them and a measly 20 presets with no harmonics.
Afterneath is one of my absolute favorites! Always bring it for live shows.
It’s not too much of a hidden gem, but can’t say enough good things about the Zoia. Can get really creative with that
