I have a feeling they’ll continue to fix these screens well after the warranty ends.
Can confirm, they did it for me on a second hand purchase recently. Mad respect to Elektron for it, not the first time they’ve been generous to little me in these cases either.
Realistically, this is the only reasonable way they can behave in a situation like this. The added cost is surely not insignificant, but still incomparable to the damage saying “no” would cause. Rose-tinted glasses aside, these screens are objectively a fu** up on their part full stop. BUT, Elektron owning this is massive and I respect them a lot for doing that.
anyone had any luck getting hold of their support lately? i’m not having any luck reaching them. their support site states that many of the team are on vacation. should I keep bugging them or wait until they get back in August?
I would just wait, unless your warranty runs out.
The device won’t go bad - it’s just the lines that are a bit annoying.
You have contacted them; they will get back to you.
If you cause stress, only those who aren’t on vacation will get it - you won’t speed up the workflow and you won’t make anyone happier.
Replacement screen just failed on me :((( Third time for me. New unit bought on first day. Returned it and screen failed on new one. Warranty repaired that one and now the replacement screen has failed. Very frustrating. Even more so because Elektron Support is on vacation for another month:
The same thing happend to me yesterday! Repaired screen, happened again. :-/
Sounds like they can’t identify the bad screens in their repair inventory?
Seems so, i dont know. But its very frustrating. The DT2 is great, and as great it is its frustrating in the same amount that this screen-issue happend two times now. Even more, if reparing needs time cause of course sometimes the Elektron employes have to have vacation.
im sorry to hear that, its really uncool… it still bugs me that they dont make an official statement about this. its probably economically right behaviour, but to me it just seems shady.
I mean yeah the service is quick and seemless and it gets repaired for free, living in the EU it also only took one week. So service-wise great from Elektron no doubt about that.
But yeah an official announcement would be nice. Not every owner looks into a forum.
thats great to hear - and reduces my fear a bit about my DT having the same issue one day.
i would probably use the opportunity and ask if there is any chance they could insert the yello DT-OG-screen. it looks so nice, but i have no clue how these things work and would never dare to open such a device myself.
Weirdly enough, as someone who never owned a DT1, I also wish my DT2 had a yellow screen.
damn, sorry to hear this.
I don’t care what colour it is I just want it to work.
surprised this hasn’t been resolved, why would the replacements fail multiple times - that sucks!
hope you get it properly sorted
As someone who works in the general field on the repairs side of things this is pretty common, they will stick with the screen manufacturer because the manufacturer will be promising to fix/replace them for free and make a revision without the issue. It could be multiple revisions before the screens have more than a bandaid fix. But yeah part of the relationship elektron has with the manufacturer of the screens probably also involves not throwing them under the bus. It does suck but elektron probably knows that the replacements aren’t fully fixed and they will be seeing more back but they also can’t be yelling about how the screens aren’t good enough yet to customers.
I think that the biggest problem is that elektron is currently holding a shitload of preconstructed UI boards for basically all of their current devices with the russian roulette screen part already installed and the cost of replacing the entire inventory for every impacted product from fully assembled machines to replacement boards would be so excessive that they probably can’t afford to do it. So, essentially, the cost of service for replacing parts with reported issues is significantly less than actually fixing the root of the problem.
I mean they might have some dedicated stock with displays that the display manufacturer guaranteed as being good parts, but I wouldn’t even doubt it if I found out the reason that some of the replaced displays go bad is because they just swap out the entire UI board with another UI board rather than specifically replacing your screen when you send it to them. In that, I’d be willing to bet a lot of those replaced UI boards are out of the same general stock which has the “known display issue”.
I think that the reason they would do this is that while we see the impact firsthand and figure that there are a ton of displays with issues, the actual number of units sold with the “faulty” display part which are working fine is much greater than the number of people who have reported issues, it’s just that the faulty displays are much more visible to us and others on the internet than the ones which work fine. That leads me to believe elektron isn’t really giving people a new and improved display, they’re just replacing the display with the same part and that not all of those parts have an issue (or at least an issue which manifests).
Not saying that there isn’t something in the works to fix the issue but I’m pretty sure they’re replacing the bad displays with the same display part, just a working one.
From a manpower perspective it doesn’t make sense to desolder and resolder all those display header pins for every service. The cost of hiring someone on a “pay-for-time” basis is much greater than raw electronics components and switching out the entire UI board makes more sense from a time / labor perspective.
Perhaps not every time, but I’m guessing at least sometimes considering how small their staff is as a company.
I’ve had lines on my screen since it got released, I don’t even notice them anymore. As long as the screen keeps working I don’t give a shit.
Get it fixed within 3 years though, just so that in the event that you decide to sell it, that you aren’t ultimately being “taxed by the system” for not doing so.
Don’t think I’ll ever sell it. And I’m banking on it to become a collectors item ![]()
Still have my og Digitakt as well. They’re fine instruments!
I asked support about exactly that and unfortunately it’s not possible. The only solution is to buy a yellow screen and install it, but then you lose the warranty.
