I understand the Octatrack a bit more but am wondering how long the sample length/time is for the Rytm… I don’t have one yet but this plays a major factor in a decision. Thanks
Because it streams it from the 1gb drive id say 1gb. FUrther though I dont understand why you cant use SCW with the Rytm - as you can define the start and end points…
Good lookin out Dogma. I have been reading about the specs for some time but still there is no clear info that I have seen or heard. I will have to check with a few friends that have had them and see for sure. Did you scoop one up yet? Peace
Samples aren’t streamed from the +Drive.
To playback a sample you need to load it into the project RAM. This memory is about 64 megabytes.
Yep each project is 64mb or so for samples which is plenty for 127 stereo samples. You can have several samples which are longer than 4 bars at slow tempos and easily fill the rest with drums, synth hits and loops.

samples are mono
Thanks for the feedback folks. I got rid of my SFX6, SFX 60 and my A4 which leaves me with a MDUW and OT. All in all I wasn’t sure how sample heavy the RYTM is and this clears a lot up. After seeing the vid using the IPad app I figured there was a way to get more sampling power but without the RYTM in front of me, I rely on y’all . Thanks for the help, best wishes-e

Well no wonder my ESX1 sounds better then

Haha probably I mean, I was actually quite disappointed yesterday after loading some chains of drums created with Impaktor on the ipad into the AR. The way it converts stereo samples to mono is quite ugly. I’m not sure if it’s a straight sum of both channels, or if it just takes one side, but they certainly did not sound anything like the originals. I will now definitely do the conversion to mono before uploading to the AR. I can live with it as it adds character, and I tend to do my widening on sounds once everything is in my DAW, but it reinforces the fact that the OT is just plain better when it comes to “proper” sample handling. Don’t even get me started on sample management in the AR, I might get angry
I thought C6 gives you a choice…
mm, interesting, I think you’re right, I’ve never considered it as a tool for monofying samples, I’ll take a look later
indeed, this seems like the fastest way to send just one side to the AR. I’m still curious about how the AR does it internally. Thanks for the heads up, I must say I had forgotten about that
Cheers 1
I just use audacity to bake samples and the files sound pretty good. Btw, I think the max sample would be around 4 mins. But I could be way off on that…
Do any of you folks who have a RYTM know if you can sample live and on the fly from external gear straight into the inputs of the RYTM?
I am not interested in the preparation of samples through DAWs and he’s, I understand the OT can sample in this manner that I am interested in BUT if the RYTM can perform a similar task, it would be absolutely essential for me to use.
The project that I am working on is rooted in this workflow and the MDUW just doesn’t have enough room for this and the OT is a bit more of a long term project.
Thanks for the help! -eddy
No sir,
The RYTM does not sample live. Thats why I bought the OT after getting my RYTM.
Thanks Madchiller, I appreciate your help. Looks like the sampling engine is very very very limited. I read the manual a few times through and didn’t see much on this subject of possibilities. I have a RYTM and after messing about, I don’t have much use for it…'time to move on. Thanks again for your help! Cheers
I think I read the longest sample you could load on here would be a couple of minutes? Anyone have any examples of the Rytm being used to play longer samples? For example, would I be able to load on a 2 minute vocal acapella and then build beats on top of it?
octatrack
Each AR project can hold 64 MB of 16 bit, 48 kHz, mono audio.
Check this thread:

Possible but not practical IMHO.
So, at 16/48/mono, you should be able to get a little over 11 minutes of .wav in 64mb. Has anyone tried and/or can confirm playback of, say, a 10 minute sample?
Looking at rytm mostly for the drum synth, but studio-wise I do some orchestration and layering of vocal and instrument tracks, which tend to be very linear and not very loop based. If I could trigger those parts live, this would be a no-brainer addition to my live rig (currently EMU XL7 (sequencer adding drums), Virus TI (synths, the occasional synth drum I’d like the rytm to replace) guitar and vocals, doing darkwave/goth electronic rock). From the specs, it seems like this will do the job, but I’d love it if someone could confirm. Thanks in advance!
