Hi everyone. English is not my native language, so Gemini helped me with this translation. Hope it gets my ideas across clearly!
I recently picked up the DT2. With years of sample libraries, I thought I’d be up and running instantly. Instead, I found myself constantly drowning in hundreds of gigabytes of files, getting stuck in choice anxiety before even writing a single beat.
To solve this, I used Gemini Vibe Coding to develop a standalone Mac app: SAMPLE KIT GENERATOR (SKG). I m not sure if a similar software already exists—I couldn t find one myself. If there is, please share it with me!
The core concept is “Blind-box style sample shuffling.” It creates unexpected sonic combinations to spark new inspiration and forces you to use obscure sounds sitting forgotten in your drive. While designed around the Digitakt II layout, it exports pure audio files, so it works seamlessly with any sample-based setup (MPC, SP-404, or DAWs).
CRUCIAL NOTES BEFORE DOWNLOAD:
- System: Apple Silicon (M-series chips) Macs only.
- Gatekeeper Block: This is an unsigned hobbyist project. macOS will block it on the first launch.
- Please read README.txt first for a quick terminal command to unlock the app in seconds.
- Privacy: Runs 100% offline. Zero network connectivity. No tracking. I assume no liability for any damages.
CORE FEATURES:
- 8 Sample Pools: Link local directories with deep subfolder scanning.
- Instant Shuffling: Hit [Spacebar] to re-roll unlocked pads with randomized, stylistic names.
- Track Locking: Use the physical “■” Lock or drag-and-drop a .wav from Finder to protect specific sounds.
- Batch Controls: Multi-select with Shift or Cmd+A to batch-edit. Saves 5 routing and 8 sample pool presets.
- Seamless Export: Automatically packs your kit into a properly numbered (01-16) .zip file for instant transfer.
Since I am not a professional developer, this was just a fun passion project, and I m not sure if I will continue updating it. If you have any feedback or bugs to report, feel free to shoot me a DM.
