It’s probaply best to stick to one option. Makes it less likely to cause problems, because we know in advance to pay attention to it.
Like you said, it can be an advantage when working with one shot drum samples and with midi sequencing, no silence when extending a track’ s page and generally faster to work with, but it can cause problems with recorder trigs, thru machine trigs and loops.
I think it auto page copy is a good default, but it definitely is something to remember, I leave it on all the time as it is often more hassle to copy pages than clear them, YMMV though as always with OT
