Not sure why, but the copied a pattern on my Rytm mk2 influences the original pattern, and any other duplicated from it. This is consistant with any parameter changes and pads. Is this a system bug?
No, it’s the expected behaviour.
When you copy a pattern and want to make changes to the sound, you will have to copy the kit too and save it to the pattern. (go into the save kit menu, copy a kit and paste it to a new slot. Save it while giving it a new name)
When you do the above, make sure that you are in the pattern you want to copy the kit to.

no - you need to read up on kits - it’s not affecting the pattern it’s the sounds - i think this is what you mean - patterns link to a kit - copying a pattern pulls the kit over and the edits on the copy will change the first kit linked to first pattern - you need to create a duplicate kit (uinique ID) to vary along with copied patterns

Thanks for your replies. The issue is the duplication in active pads, not the kit. I fully understand how kits effect every pattern in association having read the manual. For example, if i switch four pads off on the copied pattern, it is also duplicated on the original. I find this quite odd.
If “switch off” means muting of tracks, this is normal because mutes carry over when you change patterns or kits (independently on whether the pattern is copied or not) (see manual p. 23). Mutes are part of the state of the machine, they are not part of patterns or kits.
Just before changing pattern either manually or via song mode, hold FUNC and hit all of the pads you want to mute/unmute, then let go of FUNC the moment the switch happens. All tracks will become active/inactive at the same time

Mutes are global you can use the trig mute settings to create patterns with non destructive variations of your tracks.
