Rytm distortion

Loving the sound of this distortion from the RYTM and prefer it over my Analog Heat.
The way I work tho is I use the separate outputs so the distortion has no effect.

Is it possible to run a summed mix back into the RYTM input an use the distortion?

Thanks :+1:

The external inputs enter the signal chain after the master distortion and before the compressor (p13 of the manual), so the answer is no. If you have a mk2 you could resample the individual instruments from the main bus (post master distortion) and then use the samples (obviously this limits tweakability).

Actually, you can use the compressor as a distorsion as well
(@sezare56 loves it better than the distorsion for such use ^^)

Thanks for that mate,

I have the mk2 but I cant really use your work around, as I use the separate outs more for my song arrangements.

Maybe I can finish the tracks arrangement then go back and record all the sections with the distortion applied :man_shrugging:

Oh nice have to test this out :ok_hand::+1:

Was there a forum post how it was done?

Thanks

What I meant was, switch them to go through the main output & distortion, sample one at a time, then place the newly-distorted samples back on the original tracks. Then you can have them going out of the individual outs, but with the distortion. However, as I said, this greatly limits how much you are able to tweak the sound as it has been “printed”. Hope that’s all clear.

Just lower the level, and crank up the makeup gain. Adjust to taste ^^

Do you know how a compressor works? What every other parameter does?

If I’m not mistaken, by using OB, you can rout any Tracks (your separate Outputs) into any Rytm Track to benefit from the signal path of the Rytm’s Track.

From the OB manual (pages 25-26) :

6.9 INPUT ROUTING
In addition to the outputs, the Analog Rytm and Analog Keys/Four plugins also have four stereo (L/R) inputs. Use the input routing functionality if you want to route audio (from, for example, a regular software plugin or an external instrument jacked into your DAW) through a voice on your Overbridge device, for example, to treat the audio to some analog processing. This functionality is sometimes called Sidechain input routing. Click INPUT ROUTING at the top of the plugin window to open the INPUT ROUTING menu. Click one of the eight boxes, then select which destination you wish to route audio through. You can even route your audio to two separate destinations at the same time.

Any audio track on your Analog Rytm or Analog Keys/Four instrument may be set as a destination: Main L, Main R, Main FX L, Main FX R or Track 1–12 on the Analog Rytm. Main L, Main R or Track 1–4 on the Analog Keys/Four.

6. THE PLUGINS
If you choose Main L/R as a destination for your routing, the audio is routed directly to the outputs of Elektron device without any processing. Also, if you route audio through an individual synth or drum track, remember that the amp must be triggered (by a trig placed in the sequencer or with an external controller) for any audio to pass through.

I know what your saying, but its not about samples. what I’m meaning is after I finished my arrangement, this could be 7 minutes long track. I would run the whole drum group thought the distortion. :grinning: :+1:

This is what I’m talking about…

Thanks Tchu

I seen this in the overbridge when i first installed :ok_hand:

I’ll have to have a good look in to this figure it out properly.

thank you everyone

Thought it might be a bit harder than it really was :+1:

after reading @Tchu post, this is how i set it up in ableton using the FX track to run the audio thought.
