Rytm distortion query

Hello,

When I put some distortion on my kick, it also distorts the sound of any sample I use on the rest of the pads.
How can I fix this?

Distortion is a master effect. Manual Appendix, page B-3

Two master effects (distortion and compressor)…

So either way you will have to use separate outputs. If the kick need to be distort … and all the other not, kick is the only one going to master effects. All the others are routed clean on their separate analog outs.

If kick is a sample I suggest you to distort elsewhere, flatten the kick effected and get back the kick to the Rytm

Worth noting that you can use the Overdrive control to set up dirt for each individual track. I usually use the master Distortion set low as a bit of a thickener/fool proof compressor. Hope this helps!

so I can send for example my BD output trough a distortion pedal?

sure that’s an option
Use track routing in GLOBAL MENU

You have to find you way each time you have to heavily process independent sounds… it’s better to see the RYTM as a Bus… If you’re after a heavily distorted kick, you can send all your drums on separate outs and kick to master effects, send only the kick (on it’s own output) and process externally, or process externally and get back the sample flatten as a result of the creative processing.

  • Have you tried also by layering a distorted kick (but you remove the low frequencies a bit inside a DAW) and you put that distorted layer on top of a BD synth machine.

  • or also BD Machine (you have in synthesis parameters options to get some harmonics from the synthesis like different waveforms…) + Filter + Overdrive … you can get very nice distorted kicks without using the master distortion

You could layer in some distortion from another track use the noise generator

You can also parameter lock the master distortion it can do the trick… it depends of the groove and of the other elements affected…

I want to re-mention @jurfin’s tip about the individual track “overdrive” parameter on the track’s amp page, just in case you missed that. Each track has it’s own overdrive and they all go through the same master distortion…

Track overdrive and sample bit crusher plus filter can make some very distorted sounds. Better than the master distortion IMO, but that’s totally subjective
