Routing Pulsar23 to Tonverk FX

Hi all,

I’m trying to route my SOMA Pulsar-23 audio through the Tonverk’s insert FX and can’t get it working. I’ve spent a lot of time on this so want to be as specific as possible.

Goal
Simply have external audio from Pulsar-23 processed by Tonverk insert FX (e.g. Dirtshaper).

Hardware
Pulsar-23 main out → Tonverk IN A via ¼" cable. Audio confirmed entering — Pulsar sound comes through Tonverk outputs fine.

What I see on Track 16 SRC page
Encoder A — IN A volume
Encoder B — IN A Pan
Encoder C — IN A ROUT (currently TRK 7)
Encoder E — IN B volume
Encoder F — IN B Pan
Encoder G — IN B ROUT
Encoders D and H — do nothing

The problem
No matter what I set the ROUT parameter to (OUT AB, MIX AB, TRK 7, BUS 1), the Pulsar audio comes through at exactly the same volume with no change. Turning IN A volume all the way to zero also has no effect — the Pulsar sound stays exactly the same. It seems like the signal is going directly to the output and the Track 16 SRC parameters have no effect on it.

I’ve tried:

  • Routing to TRK 7 (audio track) with Dirtshaper on FX1, ROUT set to MIX AB
  • Routing to BUS 1 with Dirtshaper on FX1, ROUT set to MIX AB
  • Bypassing FX entirely to test if any signal flows through the track at all

In all cases, no signal comes through the track — only the direct passthrough is audible, and that passthrough appears unaffected by any Track 16 SRC settings.

Am I misunderstanding what the Track 16 SRC page controls? Is there another place where external input routing is configured? Could this be a firmware bug?

Running OS 1.3

Thanks

Resolved! Posting the solution in case it helps anyone else.

The key missing step was buried in the settings menu:

Settings → Audio Routing → EXT AUDIO IN → set to PATTERN

Without this, the external input bypasses the digital engine entirely and goes straight to the physical outputs — no amount of routing or FX will touch it.

Full working setup for routing a SOMA Pulsar-23 through Tonverk FX:

  1. Settings → Audio Routing → EXT AUDIO IN → PATTERN
  2. Create a track (I used Track 1) and set the SRC machine to MIDI, set to the relevant MIDI channel (in my case channel 9)
  3. Map the track to the Pulsar by pressing Learn on the relevant Pulsar module (e.g. BD) and pressing the corresponding track button on the Pulsar
  4. On Track 16 SRC, turn up IN A volume and set IN A ROUT to TRK 1
  5. Add FX to Track 1 — the Pulsar audio now runs through them

Hope this saves someone else a few hours!

Wow thank you, I haven’t updated yet but I’ve been using mine to process external audio a lot and that definitely would have caught me!
