Has Roland ever made anything standalone class compliant?

MC-101/707 and SP-404 MKII are class compliant.
And the MC101 got it in an update. You can choose vendor or generic driver in the settings
10 month with TR-6s.
ACB & FM are so good that i stopped using sample-based drums at all.
and this is significant timesaver, since sample management is time consuming.
can I use more than one TR-6S at the same time? I use Windows, Ableton Live. I have a TR-6S and love the small form factor, but 6 tracks occasionally seems too few. I would sell it and get the TR-8S, but my desk space is limited and since most of the time 6 tracks is ok, I was thinking maybe two TR-6Sās would be better, but not sure how that would work.
Ableton (or Windows) might not play well with two of the same device. Pattern changes would be tough. Sync and start/stop would be complicated. Probably other issues I havenāt though of. Has anyone tried using more than one TR-6S, and what was your experience?
Along the same lines, I was using Keystep Pro to sequence a few synths, but for drums it managed an Ableton drum rack. Not sure if thereās a good way of having it manage the TR-6S without losing the sequencing role of the TR-6S for the drums. Anyone doing that?
Yeah, I really love the FM drums, especially the perc model with chromatic tuning.
I use the Keystep and the Beatstep.
Couple things. The Beatstep doesnāt have fixed velocity, which I like. You can go back and adjust.
And the Keystep is great, but unlike the Beatstep which copies the whole drum track to extend the sequence, for some reason, on the Keystep, you have to copy each part individually on the drum track.
So each have some flaws, but are fantastic alternatives to the dog shit sequencer/menu diving alt button push hell of the 6S and 101.
I have a 101, but Iām so happy I have the 8S. The extra space of the footprint is because of all the wonderful faders and encoders.
I should have mentioned that I have a Beatstep Pro too. Its been collecting dust for a while but I should get it off the shelf and give it a try. Thanks for the tips
Heres a pro tip.
Check out the midi mappings in the TR6S manual, and make a template in the Arturia Midi Control Center. I would map pitch, filter, and morph (or insert FX depth/modulation) to the encoders on the Beatstep (maybe LFO depth/speed). Then you can just pick the sounds you want on the track on the 6S and freely modulate using the BSP.
Also, you can sequence polyrhythms by utilizing the other BSP tracks and adjusting last step on the BSP tracks to tweak how long each sequence playsā¦
EDIT. Since i mentioned the MC101, Im waiting on the new Keylab Essential Mk 3. Im going to set up a template with the Midi ControlCenter to run the MC101, which would solve the same workflow problems as the 6S, which is the result of the smaller form factor forcing the menu compromise. Though I donāt think going bigger with the 707 would solve it like going bigger with the 8S. Too much sound design for what I like with Roland and their āpartialsā
I had problems trying to make this setup work. The first step is finding some sort of audio input aggregation device such as Voicemeeter, Dante Via, or Audiomovers Inject. However, although both TR-6Sās do show up as separate audio devices, I wasnāt able to get them to work at the same time reliably. Midi sync was ok though.
so, weāve got firmware update ā v2.00
it adds CR-78 ACB tones and chromatic 808 bass
Damn I love the CR-78. I donāt want a TR-6S again but Iām getting tempted to pick up an 8S..
my situation is even worse ā i have TR-6s and want second unit, and TR-8s too
Iāve wanted CR-78 ACB tones for a while
Peaked at the TR-8S thread. Lot of talk about a program change bug.
Iāve had no problem sending MIDI PC from MC-707 to TR-6S myself. Can even turn the MC-707 drum track audio all the way down and the drum patterns on the TR-6S still changes in sync with clip changes on the 707.
Granted I had to jump through some hoops to get the 707 to TR-6S MIDI integration working - typical Roland annoyances.
Official demo of the CR-78 tones
It seems to be a problem for when you want to send pattern changes from another brandās sequencer, e.g. Elektron (which is where I had the issue with 6S). It used to work up to v2.0 on the 8S (and I recall also on older firmware on the 6S).
Ah, it was not clear to me that they were only talking about Elektron on the other thread. Octatrack in particular I guess.
In the SH-4D thread it was mentioned to also be a problem on DT, ST and DN so not just OT. But I canāt recall this issue being reported by non-Roland, non-Elektron sequencer users.
Well, life is pain sometimes.
I have an OT myself. Sounds like I should be ready to just sample the TR-6S if/when I get around to trying using them together. Not a particularly high priority at the moment for me at this time, however.
Are you on the latest firmware?
