Roland TR-1000 User Thread

Which Gen/Sound did you use?

va supersaw

Think I found some more…

Anyone noticed vari chain order getting flimsy when switching variations in tr-rec mode?

When you assign course instead of tuning the screen defaults back to tuning after a while though the knob is still assigned to course.
1.14 just crashed so hard while adding motion to triggers I had to pull the plug because the power button didn’t work anymore.

Pickup of the instrument control knobs is not constant, you have to move them quite a bit before they respond, anyone noticed this?

Even though Roland Support is pretty responsive the issue list seems to get longer and longer…

I’ve had a couple crashes, but knob pickup hasn’t been slow in my case. Although I’m not sure what you mean exactly so maybe it’s just a matter of perception.

Yeah there’s a definite lag before values start moving.

I think (away from my studio at the moment) the lag is only when going to and from (- -) null value to (x.x) decimal value.

Have definitely noticed some erratic knob behavior - occasionally an assigned function stops responding

Also noticed the other day the gain meter on the track compressor was not responding until I switched to another track and back again

Hard to reproduce any of these consistently. No crashes on 1.14 yet though

Roland support has noted my issues but the Australian support centre doesn’t even have a Tr-1000 so they are just forwarding on the comments to head office I’m guessing.

I haven’t had any responses for support other than noting receipt of what I’ve reported and saying they will pass it on

1.14 super solid so far for me and fixed the auto slice crash bug, plus the INST-REC bug where performed parts would be snapped to the wrong steps. Very happy so far.

Roland have advised that this problem has been reported by a number of users and they will be working on a fix for this. I’ve sent them my project file to see if it’s related to that somehow.

I did the 1.14 upgrade and no audio at all coming out now

Follow the steps I’ve mentioned and you may get the audio back in some way. Mine is a little intermittent an only seems to work on Project 1 where all the factory settings are stored.
Log a ticket with Roland so that they can get a fix in place asap :+1:

Basically what I did was a back-up, then a factory reset. I am not even bothering to restore it yet because I do have audio now so don’t want to mess with it too much. I’m guessing at this point I just need to be patient and wait for a fix. The good news is after factory reset I’m still at 1.14 and now with audio. Thanks for your help!

You’re welcome. In my case, as long as I stay in Project slot 1 and don’t change to another slot, I can create patterns without audio loss. I’ve sent my backup files to Roland - the more feedback they get the faster they can fix the issues :+1:

Are you sure you can make it sustain for several bars? For me, that sound only sustains for a few seconds, then it decays no matter how long I make sustain in the envelope. I have this with all the VA and OSC gens.

Here’s a video. As you see I get a very short sustain.

I put it in time mode, not step , and I tested it using the TR sequencer.

I tried using both time and step modes in the video, doesn’t sustain for me neither with Inst Play or the step sequencer.

Anyone else tried playing sustained notes on an OSC gen yet?

Through a bit of good luck I managed to get my hands on a TR-1000, and I’ve had a few hours with it so far. This is my first experience with a TR style sequencer, and so far I’m struggling to get comfortable with it. The main thing I don’t get is why we have 3 totally separate buttons/modes for step input, playing tracks, and recording tracks. I’m finding it really cumbersome to be constantly reaching up to the top of the machine to switch between those modes. I find myself wanting to stay in TR Rec mode and then ā€œpunch-inā€ the selected track while keeping an eye on the sequence. Is there really no way to do that?

Another pain point, minor but important: why is there no metronome? Does everyone just put down trigs on a track to make a metronome?

A third thing that I’m finding friction with: the 16 step limit on the sequencer (and no per track scaling). I think I’ve gotten spoiled working with machines like the OP-XY and Ableton Move. I suppose the idea with the TR-1000 is to use pattern variations and then chain them together? While trying that approach, I found myself frequently wanting to copy sequences from individual tracks and paste them in new variations, but it seems you can only copy and paste entire variations.

Anyway, I really want to dig in and see if I can make this thing work for me. Can anyone enlighten me with some tips for working with a TR style machine?

Try adjusting the envelope parameters in the generator itself rather than the amp envelope (which you can leave switched off)

Yeah. I miss the pad on the Tr-8s which allowed you to do exactly this

See reference manual, p. 72: Copy+Inst seems to do just that.

With regards to the UI, I guess they wanted it to be close to the OG x0x, because thatā€˜s what a lot of people will probably buy a TR-1000 for.
