Ouch
Hey - curious yāall. When you sample something and change the pitch, do you hear that nice aliasing or the sample rate going down. Like an old school sampler?
I sampled in some chords and pitched them down an octave and Iām getting a nice down sampling sound (or what ever itās called - I think you guys know what Iām talking about)
The TR definitely has āa soundā and I like it!! Itās a very dirty machine in a good way
Itās the same with all these YouTube āreviewsā. Most of them received the gear for free so they have an inherent bias - making a video thatās unflattering may result in being cut off from future freebies.
Yeah, itās got a ton of faders and knobs on it, i like faders and knobs. Going blind in my old age, would like a UI like my phone where i can adjust not just the contrast but the font setting, i have to get my face exactly a certain amount away from my gear, it kind of blows. I decided to go fully in the box because Iām too blind to deal with gear. I was just thinking it would be nice to have a UI that can change font size, like my iPhone.
Do you think non-Youtube reviews donāt get their stuff for free?
That would be handy
Iām all for screens, but prefer physical controls to still be there, so what you describe plus plenty of controls would be great!
Iām at a stage where I canāt wear my glasses to solder and build PCBs, but Iāve tried to wear reading glasses to do it, and that doesnāt work either.
I just constantly put on and take off my glasses. What I need is: ![]()
I just phoned Roland London about availability. If you paid already - you could receive one on time (whenever that is)ā¦BUTā¦He was saying theres a shipping issue with strikes at Antwerp port and its having a crazy affect with availability - possibly into the new year because of back logged deliveries. And there could be more strikes.
I mailed a few shops locally a couple of weeks back and still havenāt gotten any solid confirmation, so that definitely tracks.
Iāve placed an order on October the 1st.
Sent a email yesterday to Thomann France asking if they knew when I could expect my order to be shipped.
They told me they unfortunately have no clue.![]()
Patience is a virtue
Iām also only watching from the sidelines just the same, but seeing as Iām here fwiw it seems to me that these are both things that have been blown out of all proportion by The Internet and donāt seem to be an issue for most people who are actually using one.
I donāt think thereās any need for a reviewer conspiracy, it seems just as likely that these āmassive problemsā arenāt actually that obvious in reality for many/most users.
But it might also be relevant that I donāt really believe āperfectā sync over midi without using any form of compensation is a thing.
I hope it is ok if i answer: i understand that people want to keep the forum from getting too negative. But calling my question āconspiracyā is absurd and also not very āforum-fairplayā.
If a new 808/909 is made after 40 years and it costs so much that the normal user has to sell things to be able to afford it, then i think it is only fair to expect reviewers to spend a few minutes to test it with other gear or mention things like sync problems or the gaps. If asking why this did not happen in any bigger review is already too much, then i honestly donāt know what should be allowed in a forum and what is the purpose of a forum. And if this happens twice in a row (with tonverk and tr 1000) then even more so.
Yes, but for certain things, prefer processing sounds in Ableton before importing for a more pronounced/nuanced aliased effect. In which the WaveTracing sp950 plugin is my go-to.
I feel like this reads as if Iāve been using the TR-1000 for ages lol. Fact is I just hand-rolled an amen break over the weekend and it sounded so good with the sp950 on it ![]()
For sure, not at all meaning to have a go or anything, just passing the time ⦠and it seems like thereās gonna be a lot of it to pass which is the main thing Iām really interested in. And itās less about your post specifically, more so that these two things keep getting made out as huge issues which isnāt obvious to me at all.
Thatās purely my own personal observation, but I have been observing pretty closely. Seems to me from what Iāve seen most likely it isnāt about ignoring obvious issues, itās more that the issues arenāt that obvious in practice. Maybe unless you miss that this box has a specific setting for using it when slaved.
But people are fully entitled to be negative about it just the same, everyoneās gotta make up their own mind.
Iāll chime in on the sync issue. The gap in patterns isnāt an issue for me since I donāt play out live. Just studio work for me.
The sync problem is a āthingā. But Iām working around it and the pros of the TR-1000 waaaaay outweigh the cons.
I would love to slave the TR to my other gear, but instead I have to keep the TR as the master. Again though, I use the TR in my studio so thatās an inconvenience, not a problem.
To the point about the reviewers. Iāll agree that there is something a little disingenuous about not talking about these issues. But at the same time, theyāre reviewers, not testers. So theyāre probably not running the machines through every possible scenario all of us would be. So Iāll cut them some slack.
Plus, thereās probably some politics involved. They like getting gear. And they probably want to keep getting gear. So I imagine exposing every issue and problem of the gear they receive puts them in a conundrum. They canāt be reviewers if no one sends them gear.
Fair enough, but quite a few people are reporting 7-8ms compensation when slaving which is slightly at the higher end but seems pretty much within reasonable bounds. For me at least. I donāt ever expect to sync two sequencers over midi and not have to fiddle with it a bit, comes with the territory. And definitely not sure that if this is the case it really counts as obvious āsync issuesā that reviewers should be leading out with, even aside from just using it as a master. Maybe your experience is worse than that though?
Also have listened to a lot of demos with people jumping around patterns and really just not seeing it as a big deal. Others might differ on that or feel like itās more of a problem for their use-case, but I canāt see that itās something that would jump out at people in a lot of cases.
Canāt comment on Tonverk because tbh Iāve been paying zero attention to it, but reading every user comment on this one that I can find, Iām just not seeing it. No real skin in the game here - who knows, maybe whenever I do get my hands on one Iāll be sending it back because of sync issues and gaps and cursing the reviewers/demo guys for not shouting about this stuff from the rooftops. But ⦠idk, this doesnāt seem to be how itās been going for most people.
Exactly, I just adapted and work around it. No show stoppers for me, even the unit freezing up now and then when using the sampler. That apparently has been identified as a bug and Roland is fixing it now. For now I just hit save a lot.
For those not following the TR-1000 user thread ā Latency-be-gone!
Yeah i had attitude off one of the gate keepers on the TR-1000 user thread. Always happens with expensive gear - some users get elevated to a pedestal because its serious kit and they are very serious producers. Cringe. Any SP1200 thread is particularly bad for it.
On a positive note - A Guy Called Gerald is rumoured to be doing an instore gig at the Roland Store London next month, just him and the TR-1000. Lovely!
Still annoying tho - not a dig at Roland or anything, as it happens everywhereā¦But its a lot of money to then fork out another Ā£200 inc shipping/taxes. It should just work.
Ah good to know. Need to try out. Super busy at the moment so I couldnāt experiment more. Plan is to sample through my AKAI S950 (hot pitched up : in / pitched down : out) and than into the TR-1000 or from TR-1000 into S950 and than back to TR-1000. Will be interesting to compare the sound. Noted on the āto do listā.
This machines gives and gives. Itās getting better and better. And it sounds soooo good.
