Roland TR-1000 Rhythm Composer

I never made kit changes on the 8s. I used one kit per song. So I don’t know but apparently no gap on the 8s.

Anyone got it doing CR78/Minipop sounds?

Last hot take on this thread for today (lol, who am I kidding) - I’ve been feeling for a while like people are assuming from looking at the case and crossfader that there’s a lot more elektron in here than I’ve been seeing from obsessively following every detail that’s been coming out.

Gaz Williams was saying this on the sonic state reaction video and I was thinking “eh … not really”. There’s an influence for sure because Elektron have set standards / expectations across all electronic instruments, but I don’t think this is gonna be the Elektron box Elektron should have done - if that’s what people are waiting for, I think the only choice is to keep waiting on Elektron for it.

I do not think Elektron will do a new drum machine…it is very risky…

and it seems they have invested heavily in a different product line and taken a different path

That’s a good point - they’ve stated that the TV is the start of a new platform.

Oh wow, it looks like they implemented a lot from the Elektron workflow…

They did and they didn’t. Look at the p-lock approach. It’s different and in my opinion, worse.

The TR-1000 seems very similar to the TR-8S except better. All this talk about the TR-1000 borrowing from Elektron seems silly since this was never really a conversation with regard to the TR-8S.

Actually, both the TR-1000 and TR-8S are capable of smooth parameter slides unlike anything Elektron has created since the RYTM.

Well to be fair the rytm is the main comparison. I’ve never owned one but what’s your take on it compared to the 1000?

If playing a synth over top that would cover the gap, in sonic state review they said is still just a drum machine not a groove box, it doesn’t even really play notes as such.

Still think should not have a gap but if have something else playing it might be less noticeable

I receive my TR-1000 on Tuesday. It’s been years since I’ve owned a RYTM—I wouldn’t mind messing around with one again now. I recall it was much more finicky to get it to sound/groove how I liked, but might be capable of darker, unique sounds.

I’m a huge fan of the Roland sound though and I’d end up loading up a bunch of Roland drum samples on the RYTM anyhow.

When you load up the 909 kit are the hi-hats, crashes, and rides loaded as ACB or the original PCM samples? I’m wondering about the digital aspect of the OG 909 and what the default 909 kit in the Tr1000 contains ?

My understanding is the ACB hats etc are the original samples going through a model of the 909 signal path.

Nice, I was hoping they went further than the ACB found on the Boutique

I could be wrong. I’ll have to find that source.

That’s the thing - I don’t see it as a p-lock approach. It’s motion sequencing, which is similar but not the same.

I’ve seen this a bunch across various gear - especially Push 3 weirdly - people come in thinking Elektron is a universal gold standard that everything else should conform to, which isn’t really how it works. Then getting frustrated when other gear doesn’t work the same way rather than taking it on its own terms.

Elektron’s across the board killer feature is the tracker in a box thing in the sequencer, so it can do things like p-locks, instantaneous pattern changes, sound locks / changing samples per step, etc., etc. A sequencer that doesn’t have the same foundations might get in the ballpark but isn’t ever going to be able to do these same things in the same way. If full Elektron sequencer behaviour is what someone is looking for, accept no substitute other than the original and best (for that).

I get what you are saying and agree - but let’s be real: the 3 hour dive does demo p-locks, which is per step programming of automation. Agreed though that if that’s what your looking for go Elektron. You could even sequence the 1000 from an Elektron and i believe every knob on the 1000 can be controlled by cc.

:slightly_smiling_face: amazing
