Yeah system 1m is probably one of the few synths that I sold that I might buy again… I suppose my biggest issue with it is how weird it acted when played with a device with poly aftertouch as each new aftertouch message effected all voices and it wasn’t adjustable in anyway… ended up mostly using it as a mono because of that, and well also 1m patch points only work in mono mode. Such a great easy to use synth with some good range also.
Love my System-1M, had it for four years now and it’s still a go-to for various types of sounds. Personally I don’t use the presets so it stays in panel mode. The mixer into the filter drives so nicely with the oscillators turned up… Very into the filters too. Envelopes are snappy. It can be serviceable as a drum module with program changes.
Less happy with the limited modulation depth/range from the LFO, to the filter in particular. The sound makes up for it, and it’s got tons of range still, especially considering all of the oscillator types. I usually don’t need the LFO to fully open the filter from zero anyway… Finally, I have yet to even use a plugout in mine!
I have used both the SH-101 and Promars. They’re both excellent. The latter is quite cool because (like the original) you can have its LFO go well into audiorate for all kinds of shenanigans.
Just plug the LFO into the filter Envelope input to get a higher modulation range
Just ordered a 1m & noticed the Midi CC chart was a bit of hunt to get to, as it isn’t in the manual on Roland’s site. I’m not sure since I’m not able to confirm at this point if this is the same between the system 1 & the 1m, as this is for the Sys1. But thought I’d post the link if just for the benefit of someone in the future. http://cdn.roland.com/assets/media/pdf/SYSTEM-1_MIDI_Imple_Chart_e01_W.pdf
It’s the same for both. However, this document was never updated for later firmware versions which added some more CCs.
41 Pitchbend Range
87 OSC2 Coarse Tuning
105 OSC1 Alt Waveshapes
106 OSC2 Alt Waveshapes
Thanks for that. Definitely going to be using as many as I can assign to the OT for some fun p-locking action.
