Roland System 1M

Excellent sound ! The oscillators are great. The lights suck big time though.

If I‘d buy one I would look after one secondhand with the plugouts already installed. And never touch Roland cloud.
Quite unusable from my perspective.
As I said, if you could dim the lights, I’d probably already own two of them

ditto…

Just bought a used one online. I think it’s worth the price $650 CAD. I can sell my SH01A from $450ish I’m sure to offset the cost.

With the lifetime license purchase of the plug outs, I imagine I can load them whenever I want without the need of some bullshit cloud service? Hopefully.

One more question; is the SH101 4-voice polyphonic when played over MIDI? I know you lose polyphony when connected via patch points. Just curious is you can still play chords over MIDI with it. Really like that feature on the boutique.

Sadly all the plug outs are mono mode only

Even over MIDI? That’s a shame :frowning: The boutique in poly mode is really nice. I’m sure I can eke out a reasonable sound without the plug outs though.

Thanks for the quick answer.

For your pursuit of the euro rack 101, where did you land for ADSR EGs? I’m thinking the Intellijel Dual ADSR but they’ve been out of stock for months. Any thoughts on the Doepfer A-140-2? Anything else? If I understand correctly, the 101s attack stage is slightly exponential.

I use the Intellijel dual ADSR in my rack. Haven’t tried the Doepfer, but there is also the Roland/Malekko 540:

Is there a definitive list of plug-out compatibility somewhere? Or is it just a “read to read the copy carefully?” kind of thing? I’m kind of bummed to realize too late the Juno plug-outs are System-8 only, for example.

The list is in the manual/quickstart guide I believe. There’s only 4 and I “think” they’re the SH-101, System 100, PROMARS and SH-2.

It’s a very nice sounding synth. I just decided to move on quickly from it as I really only wanted the SH-101 sound at the time and my SH01A fit the bill

i sold it, because i think it work with Ableton CV tools etc, no love.

crippled on purpose?

something like 12 i/o show up in your DAW but you can’t use any of them except the main outputs, IIRC.

i have MC707 so i have all the ACB sounds or whatever, don’t need them…

GAS warning: do not read further if being treated for condition

Price drop on System-1m. $399 USD at major US retailer whose name starts with Sw.

Before I buy a cable just to try this out, can anyone who owns the System-1m and a Keystep tell me if you can use the USB out from the Keystep to control the 1m via its USB port? They’re both USB-B, I don’t know if I’ve ever even seen a cable like that, let alone have one lying around.

Works fine with 5-pin MIDI of course but it would be nice if USB worked, and powered the Keystep.

You would need a USB Host to do that. I only had the 1M briefly but I’m certain that the USB port isn’t a host.

If you have a Raspberry Pi kicking around you can use it has a USB Host. I can post a link for you shortly.

Sounds really good. The System-1 is a criminally underrated synth.
