Check usb settings on phone in case the usb audio routing is disabled. On sp usb can be routed to main outs or internal bus for sampling.
As far as I know, effects aren’t printed onto the copied audio file, but I haven’t tried this with the efx motion parameter on, so that could affect the effects
Twice the price for that horrendous seizure-inducing faceplate…heck no.
Worst part is that Roland didn’t restocked just so to sell these at twice the price.
I hope they don’t try and raise prices when the original is restocked.
They will, price went already up on one of the stores. Although this one is currently discounted, but it’s still ugly and expensive
Right? If they decided to charge whatever they wanted for a thing they invested in, designed and manufactured on their own, that’d be the worst.
For what it’s worth, the original is still available at its original price from Perfect Circuit, Sweetwater, Amazon, etc. not to mention loads new and used on Reverb, all under $500. Maybe grab one now before they terrorize you with price increases?
In Europe, stock is low and prices are already going up.
But Roland might have plans for the SP and prices going up might be a good thing. Or not.
Just was saying that my paycheck was not going higher these days
A very very calm ambient track for a sunday night. Recorded into SP404, this machine is magic, everything moves and comes alive!!
Paired the SP with my Pioneer AS-1 which I’ve been massively neglecting. Levels all over the place playing around with skipback and resampling but anyways. Hope someone out there enjoys it if even a little bit!
this is siiiiick, reminding me of my favorite kind of blockhead tracks
Perfect tune for a massage salon or an epic video game trailer.
Love how ambiant is just tunes for the soul.
I love the vibe.
Organic with hints of chill lofi and old school hip hop.
Even tho the levels are aotp, the tune has an energy on its own.
That SP surely gives life to anything you throw at it
Nice to come back here and hear great music.
Here’s a list of checks/button presses required when loading a track in dj mode:
Channel focus
Reverse (loads at last active state)
Cue point (loads at last active)
Channel FX bus (loads last active/pattern)
Bus FX on/off
Bus FX parameters
Cross fader position
Channel level
Sync (if beatmatching)
I’m not saying this is bad, the latter half is totally expected. but it is a lot for my small brain before you can assuredly press play.
And in the heat of a fast mix finding I always overlook one of these things at some point.
This list could be halved with a default track load setting in dj mode.
Perhaps i’m seeing this wrong and it’s again Rolands expectation we should prep a track order and respective track settings and FX ahead. (and might have to concede to this for ease of life).
From my perspective the dj would/should always load a record from init, with play and FX choices decided after, having more freedom and spontaneity on an improvised selection.
I’m also desperate for nice smooth fader curve on the channel levels and fast cut on the X fader.
Not one setting for all.
I share these boring posts so I can reference in future if I forget and in the vague hope the Roland team see them.
@looms dooooope, early Brainfeeders / LA beat scene vibes! Care to explain your process a bit?
Here’s my cheat sheet for the SP-404 MK2. It’s not 100% comprehensive, but that’s what the manual is for. This is more like a reference for when you have read the manual and maybe stepped away from the machine for a minute and could use a good reference for how to get around again. Not boring ps. I havent even started messing with dj mode but im curious. What kinda tracks are you loading up and how much prep work are you doing to the tracks before importing? Are you keeping tracks you’re importing around the same bpm?
having traded my opz I’m looking for some battery powered fun, how would you rate the 404 mk2 for portable set-ups?
i’m working on a shunkplate mix(es). i’m keeping everything at their original bpm for a more authentic mixing experience. so some boring analysis in ableton has been required. intersting to find out the true (*ableton interpretation…) bpm of old recordings! but the SP seems to agree.
would be easy to flatten everything out and import at 165bpm for an easy life dependent on the timing of your pad hit, but doesn’t seem as much fun
I like your attention to detail
i like how the machinedrum+mcl is an organic unfettered beast with its clock.
and how the SP is militant with it’s bpm requests.
