Roland SP-404 Mk2 (Part 1)

Excellent idea!

Cremacaffe makes some really nice stands that may do what you want.

I’ve got a couple of their older synth stands I use with TE gear that are really nice and fold down flat for packing.

There was some details about these guys on here not too long back. He was using other peoples samples and selling them as his own. I’d be loathed to give them any of my money tbh.

Oh! I missed that somehow.

Yeah, that changes things for me too.

how come vinyl sim only goes down 1 octave? I could understand a time stretch algorithm being pitch limited but vinyl is literally just “play it slower”

Playing it slower in the digital realm still means pitch shifting the audio, so at one point artifacts will occur (not like with a physical turntable, where if you slow it all down, it’s actually just slowed down).

Vinyl sim pitch down an octave

Resample

Repeat process!

No it isnt as convenient, but easy enough workaround, as is the SP “way”

Apparently hitting “cntrl/cmd r” to rename the audio file before exporting fixes this problem. You don’t have to actually rename the file; just bringing up the cursor should do the trick. Haven’t been able to test it myself yet, but I read this was a possible solution

Serato Studio, Roland MV-1 and Zenbeats are all really great companions to Sp404 mk2. Also, Roland Aerophone and Aira S1.

In other words, literally anything that makes sound is an amazing companion to Sp404 MK2.

I love this thing.

Agreed, a lot of the times it’s just me, an SP and a uke!

Yeah, it’s a shame. I have two stands by them that I really like.

I need some more stands right now, but they’ve taken themselves out of the running,.

I stuck small laptop feet stands that flip out for my SP

I use this one when I am standing and need more lift. It’s sturdy, good looking and swivels…

Made this using only the SP effects and a p-bass. It was a little personal challenge to see how far I could push the effects to shape my own sounds (and it turns out you can do quite a lot!) Everything sampled is either from my bass or internal noise from the SP effects.

this is super sick, you’ve inspired me to give that kind of exercise a shot. all around great work!

figured id stop here before doing a web search, :stuck_out_tongue: . but is it possible to trigger pattern chains thru midi?, i read you can trigger patterns with program changes (which i tried from digitakt, unsuccesfully) but im more interested in triggering chains of patterns than having to sequence pc messages from the dt.

Thank you!! It’s a great way to learn all the different effects and where the sweet spots you like are. Plus it got me to actually mess with busses 3 and 4 a bit more, which I usually just set and forget. There’s a lot of sound design you can do with this box, as long as you’re okay with things getting a little messy along the way

Program Changes are Midi. There are no other ways than uses program change messages to change which pattern is being played over Midi.

oh yeah, i realize this, im wondering if i can also trigger chains in a similar manner…altho ive been searching around and it seems that hasnt been implemented yet. thanks tho

My sp404 has arrived today and I’m planning to get an SD card… Are SDXC cards faster? I want a 128 GB but I don’t want a sluggish machine… maybe a 64 GB better?

Documented, I think it says it supports up to 1TB of an SD Card.

I haven’t tried to run tests on it, but I’d imagine that the issue is more likely how much data you have in a given directory (max is 255 files/directories), which probably takes the SP404 mk2 significant time to index to navigate.

Should take some time to test it out in the future myself though.
