Roland SP-404 Mk2 (Part 1)

I haven’t done it in a while but Im pretty sure it locks to bars rather than beats.

Okay. I see how it works. By adjusting the loop length, you can”preview” just that section. But you still have to back in and out of the tr rec mode.

That is a bit of work. I see what you mean by long winding.

But you know what. That’s dope, now I feel more comfortable with sequencing longer samples.

And you are correct. It is to bars, not beats.

And it works the same as start end does. You have to start at the end to move the start point. To make room.

Did I read on here that you can sample an iPhone by using lightning to usb c?

Not getting sound.

NEVERMIND.

Yeah it’s a bit of a fiddle but I think worth it if say you wanted to do a take of the last bar within an 8 bar pattern. That’s the situation I was in and it was driving me crazy waiting for it come back round to hear my timing was off, ha.

I use the count in when sampling live instruments or you can you use the wait setting.

Oh, I see.

I was thinking of if you’re trying to pull in a sample from the middle of something. Some time you catch a little lead in.

But you can edit the start point then resample with end snap to line it up.

Can I say. I effin LOVE these forums. Just everyone helping each other to create music.

New SP 404 MK2 user and new to the Forum .

Coming from decades of using MPCs - Have questions about SP MK2 file / project house keeping management

Is there a way to name SP Projects that SP saves as numbers 1 to 16 …to give them Beat Titles instead of just numbers ?

If it’s impossible ,
than How are you guys doing your Projects Backup Housekeeping :
How do you keep your saved beats/projects organised under their names instead of numbers to be able to recall/reload them back in any time in the future from SD card and/or from computer ?

On my laptop, I just create a folder with my chosen project name and put the backup in there. Not the most elegant solution perhaps but gets the job done.

Could add a short audio preview to serve as a reminder of what it sounds like as well!

Yeah, I’d put it in a named folder on your computer and maybe write out a master list of projects and locations in Word or Pages, depending on whether you’re PC or Mac.

Have been bit by the unexplained “Unsupported File” message. Bleh!

Files are all appropriate length and supported sample rate, but depths. Booo…

I did a google search on this and was brought to this thread… can’t remember who but someone explained that it’s likely due to the sample length being too short. Frustrating because they preview just fine. I really hope that one is fixed (as well as the silence that gets added to the start of any resampled sample)

Edit: just reread and saw your “appropriate length” comment, so I’m not sure if that covers what I wrote above

The particular sample was 1 minute 19 seconds. :woman_shrugging:

The SP app may get it sorted. That said, I don’t have it to verify as it requires you to log in and create an account to download.

Ouch, yeah that is odd :frowning:

This is the worst! Any idea what causes it? Is it something related to the name? All my samples are .wav and I get 'Unsupported File" arnings, seemingly at random.

After reading about Skip Back in the manual, I don’t think this is a thing, but is there a way to clear the Skip Back buffer without having to stop playback? Wouldn’t it be dope if we could trigger Skip Back sampling? For instance, you are listening to incoming audio, and you know the part you want to sample is coming up, you could clear the buffer and start recording at the perfect moment. It would almost give the SP Live Looper functionality.

What would be the difference to that and just using the record buttons?

Don’t you need to stop the sequencer and/or any currently playing samples to enter record mode?
Skip Back is always recording. I access Skip Back buffer from Sub Pad. It would be nice if I could clear the buffer (Del + Sub Pad).
