Wow! The list is endless. Thanks for doing this! I used the 202, 303 and 404 og a lot and will probably get a mkII at one point. Cool to watch another SP head exploring all these features to see if this could improve my workflow.

congrats
I started out with a bunch of feedback I’d sampled while researching a question a little up-thread about recording external FX via CUE, and ended up jamming on an acid bass line. It’s never what I had planned but I really enjoy the places the 404 takes me.
I ended up exchanging DT out. When I bought the DT the main thing I had in mind was having a machine for making hip hop beats on, and anything else was a bonus.
I’ve always had a sampler, since I started making beats (for some reason I was at the house and techno for probably over 5/6 years before I decided to have a go at Hip Hop, despite always loving the music). MPC4000, Machine, MPC One, PO-33… Bunch of stuff. I turfed out beats on all of those to varying degrees of success (Maschine was the most natural).
There were just too many things with DT that were a massive loss. No intuitive slicing and just having slices on different pads was one vibe killer. The other one was no insert effects - I’ve always been heavy on the textural elements and use of insert effects to resample and resample something until it’s ‘just so’ and a new sound is so necessary.
I’m not so disillusioned as to believe you can’t make amazing beats with a DT. I just couldn’t enjoy trying too!
I feel pleased that I slogged at it for a bit and arrived at this decisions knowing my gut instinct is right and it isn’t just grass is greener. Pretty sure the SP offers me these things (and also a new learning curve haha). Dead excited for it to arrive now
Anybody discovered any workarounds for the lack of pitch or filter envelopes?
Hi all!
I am about to rejoin the SP404 club. Should be arriving within a week or so.
I plan to use it mainly with my iPad. A quick question about this: I have an iPad with USB-C (no 3.5mm port). So I know that that works great with the SP for both Audio and Midi.
However, since the midi-out capabilities of the SP are rather limited, I would love to use other hardware to sequence the iPad (e.g. Aira J6, DT or Arturia keylab ) while at the same time recording the audio into the SP.
No my question is, would a simple USB-C splitter allow me to do this? So for example. I would hook up a USB-A to USB-C cable to hook up my DT to the iPad and another USB-C cable from the iPad to the SP? does anyone has experience with this?
Just hook everything up via a USB Hub, and turn the SP on last to mount it as your audio interface.
You will be able to do midi over USB just fine with your USB Midi devices.
If a device doesn’t do Midi over USB, CME offers really great Midi Bluetooth adapters as well.
Thanks for the quick answer! I think I have a hub lying around for my MacBook, so I will try that first. Otherwise, it might also be possible to use my (USB-C) audio interface for this I guess. That would however severely limit the portability of the setup…
I’d try the CME Bluetooth adapter if you want to forego the USB Hub. Just plug it into the DT and you’re good.
That looks like a great solution! Thanks.
Manual resampling while tweaking live…
I’m really excited to pair my Syntakt with the SP. Going to be a great way of using it to commit it’s range to audio and to be able to further process it, and make it make chords/ further design new sounds from it with effects and resampling etc.
Damn I wish it would just arrive - hopefully my eBay guy posts today
Hello all.
Does anyone know how to auto detect samples? Or how it works?
Thank you!
This may sound ridiculous, but couldnt you just use the DT as the audio interface, and have the ext outs go to the SP404? Or forgo using any interface and just using a usb hub to 3.5 adaptor? Though it may introduce noise.
Im just trying to help. Ignore if its a bad suggestion.
It is a fun pairing! It is quite easy to trigger pads on the SP from the Syntakt via midi, as well.
So you don’t even need to commit a loop to audio, just process the individual drum hits and switch the source tracks from whatever they were to midi.
I’m still sorting through the workflow, but I am enjoying it so far.
Not ridiculous at all, I could definitely figure something out with the DT (or OT or MPC, yes I have a sampler problem…) but I am looking for a minimal couch jamming setup with my SP and the iPad.
Just received mine yesterday by the way
Congrats!
I’ve had mine for a bit, but I’m getting my first iPad tomorrow.
So I’m really interested in what you figure out.
Couch jam with just an iPad and 404 sounds comfy!
Let me know what you think about the 404!
It’s such a great combo. Enjoy!
