Yeah I was surprised when I saw it turn off and on and didn’t realize it could be motion recorded.
Anyone else have issues with end snap working and then not working? I don’t get it? driving me bonkers lol.
And is there any way of being able to sample EXT IN whilst a pattern plays - BUT - with a count in?
is there a way to change midi channel? or turn off midi note in/out? usecase is im trying to sample into my ipad from an external source and use a launchpad to play it, but then be able to sample that into the 404 and use FX etc. like as in
ipad<—usb C—>404mk2<—audio and midi interface<—launchpad
should be fine but launchpad is triggering 404 samples and 404 note out is triggering ipad. even if theres just a single channel the 404 doesnt use I can just set everything else to that but I cant wrap my head around the midi channel situation on the 404.
just used a midi monitor and it seems banks A-J use a channel each from 1-10. set it to 11 for now but im not sure if thats used for anything
On the mk2
Channel 1-10 is for the pad banks like you determined
Channel 11 is for vocoder
Channel 16 is for Chromatic
This leaves Channel 12-15, as far as I know, unused.
great thankyou! much appreciated
Hopefully this video shows End Snap looping working the way you hope it does
You can record EXT in events into a pattern, then use Resample for the pattern and count in… actually will write that down as a tip for a future video
I 100% forgot this thing had a vocoder!
what other surprises are out there, just waiting to be rediscovered
Just thought I’d let you know… You have a good relaxing voice for video. You sound like a pilot in fact - in control and (more importantly) calming.
yeah, definitely has an in-flight announcement vibe in a good way.
It would be hard to find a dynamic lava mic other than the SHURE SM11. It seems that EX-503 is an electret condenser mic.
I am just looking for a small mic that with work with the front TS input.
My setup MPC 2500 as sequenser SP404mkii (SP slaved to MPC), for samples… For me match made in heaven… I can even save the and controle the effects as midi CC on the MPC after the SP’s 2.0 update… Nice!
But after a while when I edit my sequense on the MPC, the SP either freezes or the samples get cut off… and SP needs to be rebouted and everything is fine again…
Anyone else experienced this, and maybe have a solution?
Did anyone experience odd behaviour with samples on the SD card? I copied a bunch of folders into a main Samples folder and while most of them work I get an error message for all files in certain folders (unsupported file type). They´re all WAV files and not even all files from the same series work (e.g. Vol 1-4 are fine but Vol 5-7 can’t be imported even though they all have the same specs). The other day the whole unit even crashed when browsing such a folder and it automatically rebooted. I’m running the latest firmware.
I guess the first question here is whether this is consistent - is it always the same samples that cause an error? And does the same thing happen if you use a different card? If so, you’d want to take a closer look at the specs of the samples, and compare them to ones that are working, to make sure there are no differences there (and also the names, in case something there is causing a problem) - don’t trust any published specs, open them up in Audacity or similar and check the info there. If the problem is consistent with certain files, there’ll be a reason and you just need to dig it out. If you can find an example of a file that always crashes and a file that always works, you could always get someone else to try them, to ensure it’s not specific to your 404.
Yes, the same samples/folders cause an error. I haven’t tried a different card yet as I don’t have a spare one at the moment but since most of the files work and even the firmware update was done with it without any issues I don’t really expect the card to be at fault here. Like I mentioned this even occurs with files from the same series that share the same specs (checked in the finder window on my Mac, they’re all 44.1 kHz and 16 bit) and the same naming convention. And the files themselves also aren’t corrupt as they play fine on the computer itself. Only thing I can think of is that something went wrong during the copying process but that usally causes errors only on single files here and there but in this case it’s all files within certain folders.
PS: I just copied the files through the finder and didn’t use the Roland app.
That’s what I’d do, but if you have the app it’s a good idea to see if the same files have an issue taking that route. I think first off I’d try a different card when possible, or at least create a second copy of the samples in a different location on your current card, to see if they have the same problem. Also worth renaming the folder, just in case there’s something there the 404 doesn’t like.
Speaking of the app, any way to download it without signing up for Roland cloud?
How long are the WAV files in that folder? For some reason, the 404 errors out when reading WAV files that are too short (only a few hundred samples long):
File length varies randomly but nothing is shorter than 1 second. And unlike in your quoted post I can’t even preview the samples. If I try to preview them that’s when I get the error message and when I scroll through that folder and try to preview samples randomly a few times the list of samples just disappears… usually I can go back from there but the other day the whole thing just crashed.
If by Roland cloud you mean their installer app then unfortunately not.
