@NearTao Do you know of any way to get a Clean CUE Audio out from the Headphones 3/4 ports? I am wanting to send audio just to the headphones from AUM on the iPad. Right now 3/4 is blending with 1/2 on the SP.
If people managed to do techno or drum’n’bass with an ensoniq EPS 30+ years ago then surely a SP404MKII can do techno or drum’n’bass provided you have the skills to make a techno or drum’n’bass beat. At the end of the day it has a sampler and a sequencer
Man, I really like your “makeshift resonance” track! Love the combination of fast paced and minimalistic drums, along with the chord progression that never seems to resolve, and the collage of samples weaving and overlapping. Like being thrown into an overwhelming and unfamiliar situation, but with a positive attitude.
Neat… I should definitely come up with a better cover image, or clean that picture up a bit more.
Let me know if you find anything that needs a tweak or is just wrong. I’ve got a lot more changes and updates that need to get put in to place, so hopefully you’re not going to print out every version
Thank you for the analysis and validating the overall intent of my track. I am so happy i was able to draw you into the track. It’s my goal to transport the listener to new places but provide a little bit of a life line of the familiar if you will
So I have made a few patterns on my sp404 mk2. I’ve hooked up my drum machine via midi so that the sp404 is the slave. Sp404 in pattern mode, hit play on the drum machine and they play in sync. The problem is that when I change patterns on the sp404 they no longer play in sync (tempo is matched but the patterns aren’t lined up). Any suggestions on how to overcome this?
Well, I hadn’t tried this so I just had a go with an iPad connected, and the answer seems be ‘yes, with a but’. Patterns certainly send polyphonic MIDI to a connected device, but I found monitoring and recording via the SP frustrating because the EXT SOURCE pad (which you’ll need to sample the sequence back in) a) sends a MIDI note out itself, and b) has its on/off state recorded into the sequence. And of course by default all the pad sounds play at the same time, and I believe they only send MIDI if a sample is loaded (which people have worked around by using silent samples).
I expect this is something where you need to know exactly which settings to have in place in order to make it work, and then practice will make perfect. It does seem achievable, but I think if I wanted to do it myself I’d probably use an external controller or sequencer for the sake of my sanity and nerves.
No, it sends MIDI on channels 1-10 for the 10 sample banks (i.e. bank 1 = ch. 1, bank 2 = ch. 2) and channel 16 when you’re in Chromatic mode, regardless of the bank. I think I this is all fixed.
Comrades, at long last I have received my unit in the mail! 9 months after ordering an SP 404 mk2 I have finally been able to use the case, compact mic, and 32 Gb SD card I have ordered at the same time
Wow, this really does deliver on the finger-drumming FX-tweaking expectations I had of the mk2! I started off with an SP-202 back at the turn of the century, and when that gave up the ghost I traded that in for a digitakt and then octatrack and thought I would never look back. When the Mk2 dropped it had literally every feature I had wished for so I figured “why not?”
Best impulse buy in a loooooong time.
I know you have heard it all before in this thread, but I had to share my joy with someone.
this has been driving me insane… I legit thought my unit was glitching when the ext-in started turning on and off by itself while recording a sequence. Can’t imagine who’s asking for that as a feature esp considering there’s no clear way to enable/disable it without nuking the entire sequence.
