Not mine, but here are Dropbox link for a PDF manual :
Is anyone using their SP-404mk2 with a USB-to-5.7v DC Ripchord and a powerbank? I just ordered one of those chords, despite having heard about all sorts of issues people had with them with Digitakts, A4s etc…but I figure the conversion here is from 5v to 5.7v so maybe it’ll work reliably.
If anyone is doing this, I’d love to know how it is working out — can you still sample via USB3 with an iPhone attached (main reason for getting the chord vs going direct via USB3)? And how much time are people getting out of their powerbanks? Which powerbanks are you using/do you recommend? I get a good 4 hours out of my batteries (duracell 2500mah) but at the moment I’m so into this box, time flies by and I need a little more lol.
PS: MyVolts has a sale on atm, with the coupon SAVEXMAS I got 20% off the order.
Looks like it’s been sent off to Roland already, but this is the thread I was referring to:
And finally, not to spam this thread, but I’ve discovered that I can use my iPhone as an FX box to further affect and manipulate the samples on the SP404.
I haven’t worked out how to do this live yet, there seems to be a feedback loop going if I play a pad on the SP404, send it to an FX bus on the iphone and from there straight back into/through the SP404 via Ext Source. No idea if internal playback can be muted for those occasions.
To still use the iPhone for EQing, compression, additional effects on samples, I use Loopy Pro, where I use the SP In 1+2 on an inout channel which I mute, then from there record a sample into one of LoopyPro’s slots, then add all the insert FX I want on that slot, manipulate the sample and finally play it back from LoopyPro into the SP404. Works a charm and is especially good for corrective measures (eqing out resonant frequencies, or using a more flexible hipass filter than the one available on the SP404). Also, LoopyPro can help turn samples into perfect loops with its auto-detection feature a little easier than doing it on the SP404 (although I dig the “by ear” approach of the SP404 for that still).
So, with my unit arriving later this week, is there anything to do in the meantime besides download the software for the Mac? I assume I need to format the SD on the unit itself, so no point in downloading the new OS yet I guess.
I’ll probably reread the manual to try to internalize some of the button combinations as well.
Yes you’ll have to format the SD card on the unit. If you plan on using MIDI, make sure you have Type A TRS to MIDI cables/adapters, there are none in the box.
Thanks a lot!
I use this one, PowerCore Essential 20000 PD, it lasts a very long time, at least 10 hours
It’s about as long as the SP is wide so I use it to prop the SP up at an angle, works perfect
Practice finger drumming
Does anyone have a travel/hard case they are using for the mk2? Can’t seem to find any specific ones online, and the 404 Magma case is too small for the mk2.
Resampling on this thing is so cool. I dont even sequence much yet. Just grab a sample, process it, resample to a new pad and then add more fx. Each time i resample to a new pad and then i go back and pick my favorite pads and sample those to my OT. I then sequence, use the crossfader and scenes in the OT.
Its basically an amazing way to make my own sounds and then mangle them even further with transitions in another sampler. Then i just record that ot performance into my mixer and i have fully evolving and effected tracks before even hitting the daw for mixdown.
Thanks!
The only drawback, for me, is that I couldn’t use USB-C to sample in, if I’m using USB-C to power the device. For this reason alone, I opted for rechargeable AA’s.
This case did fit my mk2.
Sweet, that’s the one I bought as well. Glad to hear it works well.
Cheers, I ordered one
Just ordered the sp yesterday the rep said l am 168 on the waiting list the interesting thing is l’m the first one to order at this store location so he said l might get one when distributed throughout the country. ETA is February but rep said that could change.
Not really sure if I am doing something wrong or if it is a bug. After chopping I press mark to auto assign and after that I press enter. During the last two days the chops would not be assigned to the pads and on top of that the original sample is gone (only a blank pad)… does anyone else witness this behaviour? Or am I doing anything wrong, though sometimes is works.
Actually I just notice that this behaviour only occurs when auto assigning the chops starting with the pad that holds the original sample. When I change the first assigned pad to a new one it works. I am pretty shure though that this used to work before…
Seal that last one with an NFT and offer it for sale, see what happens
Nice design for sure!
I don’t have my SP404 with me at the moment, but I think I had exactly that behaviour (the undesired one) when I messed around with auto assign and mistakenly chose the main sample’s pad (it got deleted). Could be a bug or just the machine’s behaviour, not exactly clear on that myself.
