I’m sure you already know this, but it’s a really fun combo!
No
Oh sad
Thx for the info!
Hello, a question. Sorry if already answered somewhere. Could the S1 be connected to iphone 10s ( midi clock and/or audio?) runnig pure acid app as t8 replacement for travel (with camera connection kit adapter) Someone has experiences?
Don‘t have ipad. Also tried drambo to add some padsounds to iphone pure acid, don‘t really get it, also maybe too small. Thanks
Hello pdp how do you do? I can answer parts of the question. Yes, in the shop I was able after some fiddling to get the pure acid sound from iphone into s1 and out of the mix out. With apple adaptor. Nice
Can‘t test here now , don’t have the camera connection adaptor with me.
Somehow i‘m not able to get midi start and audio now on my unit from DN with the elektron usb cable and apple usb a to c adaptor that works for overbridge…
Think i tried everything in DN usb and usb midi config and s1 midi menus incl aira off etc. Probably missing something stupid or is it possible?
Edit
Thanks a lot @shigginpit.
No clue what i see on this picture haha , also nothing written on the midi adapter cables. Anyway , changed a pittsburgh cable to the one from 0 coast. Already wwanted to go to shop when nothing worked.
Howewer, still don‘t know if usb midi from DN to s1 doesn‘t work or if its the normal c to a cable from apple and elektron usb cable somehow. Thought i tried everything, but…
Somehow midistart from iphone with camera kit (the one with also lightning) also doesn‘t work here, only start from s1 to pure acid. Will test with bitwig someday…
Usb midi between s-1 and digitone is not going to work. Neither of them is a usb midi host
Why on earth didn’t Roland make the bottom part of the S-1 case that lovely sh101 grey instead of lurid green?
Oh yeah, of course, it’s because they are Roland and can’t have all their design decisions make too much sense.
S-1 sequence played through lossy, vl-tone played manually as ‘drums’ via the mix in, coming out of an amp that was about a mile away.
To be perfectly honest, if they had designed this with a beautiful, sturdy metal case instead of that hideous gren plastic and charged another 50 EUR for it, I probably wouldn’t be able to resist buying it even though I really don’t need one. Roland underestimates the power of quality materials.
I honestly love the green on this one.
At least it’s not “Aira green”…
Green’s not all that visible from the top anyways
It’s a great synth, i use it more and more in my hybrid setup.
Has anyone found a way to send midi cc from the roland S-1 to their daw ? Im trying to record knob changes and I’m having a midi feedback loop when trying to do so. I’m using a usb cable for the midi connection and Ableton Live.
No, just to say that I also had midi feedback issues trying to use the s-1 over usb midi with an MPC Live 2.
I have both and Im plannig to sell or trade the S1. Sh4d is plenty of digital multisynth and very versatile. Good as a portable sofa synth for noodling or sequencing it from DAW.
There is plenty to explore, its easy to navigate and the modulation matrix is deep.
I’ve modded mine with different knobs and it’s so much easier to see the current settings and more comfortable to use.
I’ve posted about it here:

thank you for the inspiration! i just ordered myself a set of my own, super excited!
just rebought one of these for the third time and i think im gonna keep it. sequenced it from the ep133 and had a bunch of fun, the ep133 also has cool midi fx that can make some cool randomized chord progressions, gonna have to experiment more. sequenced on the ep133 and recorded on the sp404
Those look amazing! Do you have a link for them?
I absolutely love the sound of the S-1 but have been struggling with ground loop noise when USB is connected to my computer. Would love to continue using MIDI over USB though. Has anyone else use an audio isolator or a USB isolator with success? I’m looking at these options:
