Really cool P-6 jam from sonicstate:
Just received one of these for Christmas. I’m sill wrapping my head around it.
It’s kinda wild you can sequence all 48 samples/pads at once (within available polyphony of course). I had assumed it was going to be 6 “tracks” like on an Elektron device (and many others) and you assigned samples to those 6 tracks. It’s going to take some adjusting to my mental model.
I think I need to step away from the idea of getting a “perfect” set of 48 samples on there, and treat the contents a lot more disposable. Ideally I’d want a way to splat over a folder of 48 wavs and just overwrite the whole contents per project or track idea
picked up a korg drumlogue yesterday and started making some fun perc loops. im pretty into the sounds ive gotten out of it so far, sampled the whippy perc loop from the drumlogue through the ring mod on the 404 and made this tune around it. this is also the last full track in my p-6 set. i have three more available patterns with one more bank to go so i may make a quick little intro/outro thing. probably not gonna do this again because locking up the banks on the p-6s has removed their pick up and go utility that i love. still glad i gave it a try tho. now i just gotta figure out how i want to preform it.
Hey, quick question : does the “factory reset” procedure also resets the P6 menu settings to default ? I presume it’s the case, but I wanted to ask before trying.
I think the reset, resets the settings. But if you deleted samples and altered patterns, you’ll need to restore those through a separate process. I think…
Does anyone know if the P-6 recognizes loop markers embedded in wave files or could someone try it out?
Here is a wave file with embedded loop tags:
If this does not work, could anyone try whether the following wave file plays without clicks when the whole sample is looped from beginning to end?
Thanks!
Wait what?
This thing is polyphonic & chromatically pitches samples (pretty well too IMO) but it doesn’t accept MIDI note pitch information?!
(this is from the P-6 MIDI implementation doc)
that note is only applicable when sending data on the Sampler MIDI Channel. sending data on the Auto MIDI Channel will play the selected pad chromatically.
Not what the entire midi chart says. it depends on the channel.
you can play samples chromatically on a specific channel (15) or using the granual mode (16). you can’t play all samples chromatically on different channels.
Cool. I dived straight down to the MIDI implementation pages, where that critical detail isn’t explained.
Shame you can’t play all parts chromatically but that’s expecting a lot from it
What’s the best tool for quickly creating sample chains for this thing?
Don’t need anything fancy and I’m sure I could use ol’ faithful Audacity but it’s still going to require some fiddling about
tbh making the chain on the device itself is probably the fastest way. no fiddling, especially if you can preview your samples with one key press. today i made some chains by scrolling through my sample folders on my sp404, super fast
on another note, i recorded my beat sesh today, in case anyone likes these kinds of process vids. i was gonna try to record my p-6 set but quickly realized i absolutely hated that process, gave up and just started making a new tune.
Hi,
For those controlling the granular side of the P6 via midi. I mapped all the functions to my Faderfox UC4 but I have the sensation that for some, just one small turn on the knob it is too much… the knobs on the sampler itself are more accurate… can I do something on the UC4 to improve it? are the controls from Roland S-1 also accurate like the sampler ones? Is this something related to the midi resolution? And also, on some functions you can use the shift bouton, is it controllable via midi? thanks
Really getting under the hood with this thing now. Some strange inconsistency emerge like the volume jitter option and alternative auto pan modes only available on the granular pad. Erm like why, these would be great on hihats
Anyhow small quibbles aside it’s scary how much is going on inside this thing. At first I didn’t think there was a filter or amp envelope but it’s all in there (behind a menu or three - of course!)
I’ve spent the quiet time at the start of the new year on putting together a reference card for the P-6 to help decipher the menus, plus some other helpful things.
It fits and prints on A4 well.
I’d welcome any feedback people have, and if this is well received I’ll see about doing one for the other Aria Compacts
Link to the source file - in case the forum does some rescaling or other funny business
Thanks for this @JoyrexJ9 looks great and very handy
You instantly get my positive feedback!
Would love to have the charts for the other compacts, particularly S-1, J-6
Thanks!
I’ll definitely look to doing one for the S-1
Excellent work, thank you!
Updated to v1.1 (already!)
