Roland P6 Aira Compact sampler

Haha.

Could well be. As I said, I find this P6 both attractive and infuriating at the same time… but sexy it is.

Luckily I can’t quite understand the navigation logic/workflow so GAS is at bay this time around… I think.

Or used in tandem with other Rolcas filling other musical roles—S-1 for the melodic and chordal stuff, T-8 for the drums and bass. Basically following Korg’s role model for selling one user multiple Volcas.

My Sampletrack sits there unused (anyone wants one?). I did manage to get quite a few tracks out of it back in the day. But it was far from ideal for me.

One good thing was that you could learn it in 5 minutes, very clear what it could and couldn’t do. Cool fx as well, resampling, a basic sequencer… Fun machine.

True, but I was thinking more of them adding a row of linear 16 buttons for step sequencing to the pad layout (like the Analog Rytm) and making it more part of the design from the get go, with a clearer UX.

I have to say that reading through all the excitement about this device, particularly in the mobile aspect of it. I can’t help but think that Novation really missed a trick with their Circuit Rhythm, by not putting a mic or mic input on it.

Remember the older QY10 with Novation releasing their very first product the MM-10 keyboard controller?

In case you did not know the Liven LoFi12 also excels at this kind of thing too.

Would you be willing to summarize the reasons for your decision?

An inside look. Battery would be easy to replace.

I just threw up in my mouth

I never used the word perfect. I bought this Roland unit back in the 90s new.

I replaced it with a 2kxl. after only a few months.

Sample storage and management, manually dialling in velocity and some automations. I could see this being used on an airplane or bus with a smartphone but not for production or live sets outside of the synthfluencer bubble. I have a DT II, an MPC, a KO II, etc but my use case would probably be on the toilet or as a passenger.

Okay, that’s 8€ and about 5-10 minutes time after 4-6 years (going by my experience with Nintendo handhelds)

I don’t want to hear anybody ever 'but the internal battery will die" as an argument against them, especially to then argue that dangling power bank are the great alternative for portable gear.

This looks like a great sketch and on the go sample-mangling tool. I can see coming up with something and dropping it into the DT grid machine when I get home to expand the idea. Not everything needs to be a production machine. This would also be a great gift for a kid. I assume that’s why the line is using bright colors.

Or ample space for an even bigger battery for those trans-atlantic sessions

Couple of screenshots of the storage. The “P-6 Info” contains the pattern information files of just the first bank of 16 patterns. Each pattern file is about 16 KB.
The “EXPORT Info” is the folder of just Bank A samples. Sample sizes vary from 46 KB to 510 KB. All are 16 bit 44.1 kHz mono and stereo. Also includes the parameter details file. Each one about 825 bytes. So two files in each Bank pad. The .PRM (parameter files) are plain text files so maybe editable to play around with.

I will let you all do the math to figure out the memory capacity of this thing.

From the looks of it at least 4 times. Depending on the thickness maybe even more.
