If the announcement today is any indication, then Roland has nothing to unveil in their 'Festival'. Today they announced the Roland AE-10 G. Exact same instrument now in Gray! Not even a bump on the software.
Why today is 'Wind Day' for Roland. **Warning mildly offensive.**
As far as Roland being interesting, i do think the SE-02 is a good recent release.
And i'm already on record regarding the Aerophone.
And actually the Euro-rack stuff is a surprise.
But that said they have been awfully conservative at innovation for a while.. And notice, two of the three things i just listed were done in conjunction with some outside group.
Their ACB (Analog Circuit Behavior) technology definitely has possibilities too, though i think the application of it hasn't quite matched its potential. And if you like the Boutique or the AIRA approach, there has been plenty of follow-through with both.
Yamaha would be another corporation that i'd put in a similar category: a company that just isn't quite living up to their potential. Actually Yamaha makes Roland look good, in my opinion.
At least it's a better gray than the new Elektron gray!
