Roland making a push with the TR8S

So Dr. Mix just did an unboxing, and Red Means Recording just dropped a video on the TR8S.

Roland is doing a marketing push via synthfluencers.

Is it just that time of year? Or is another firmware coming?

Yep, same observation. I think TR-8S is superbly made (as-is). Pity we dont get a bigger OLED screen or easier navigation. New features and functionalities often trickle on to the next generation of devices so after MC-707, TR-8S, J-6, E-4 and all that, I have high hopes for the next set of groove machines from Roland.

'Tis the season for X-mas shopping…
Could be that they want people to buy their products for the holiday?

Surely not?

I thought RMR told everyone to stop buying gear

Pigs are not capitalists, humans are.

Latest firmware is from 3 months ago and they included 6 new fm models and new effects. Just like the Analog Rytm that costs more than twice and can’t even monitor external input.

To be fair, pigs love abundance

They were selected to. By humans.

The funny fact is we’re getting fed with products non-stop. Like we feed the pigs.

Yeah!

Everything’s shit!

And I keep wondering: what problem does Trent Reznor have with the poor pigs?

I was about to post some lyrics from “March of the pigs”

I think the Syntakt got my hopes up. Its not only shopping season, but upgrade season.

Red means recording has a free Kits and patterns download available via the Roland website, I guess that’s why he’s made a video with TR8s.

I’ve not checked Dr Mix, maybe he has some kits too.

Yeah, I noticed that. It was Dr. Mix also dropping an unboxing video that made me think Roland has something in the works.

I would like to use the kits and patterns, but it eats up too many slots.

Cleaning up the back room at the warehouse and found a few thousand extra units?

I have the Roland TR-08 reissue boutique and it is fun but sounds thin and weak until I feed it through my Analog Heat then it is a solid techno drum machine. Part of why I bought a new Rytm is to address the flaws of the crappy sequencer, workflow and weak thin sounds of the TR-08 without need to use Heat as the Rytm has solid sequencer, pads, effects and good filter and so forth. I place Roland on same par as Korg but a little better. The Roland TB03 is great bass machine for acid squelch however. But SP 404 MK2 and Roland Juno are my favorite boxes from them right now.

I see where youre coming from with the Roland sound.

For me, its not that the TR8S is weak, but too clean. I cant speak for the TR-08.

BUt nothing is going to come close to Elektron, and especially the Analog Heat. They have the hardest and most filthyest sound right now. And I love Roland.

You have to dial Elektron back if you want that mainstream sound that Roland delivers.

The sequencer is really good on the TR8s. Elektron took its cues from that workflow, and I know the TR-08 was trying to recreate the limitations of the original, whereas the TR8S is an evolution of that workflow.

And thats aslo why I got the MC 101, because thier Juno modeling is steller. I wouldn’tmind getting the Ju06 or whatever their TR-08 version of a Juno is, just so I could have physical controls instead of achieving the same effect with partial editing on the MC101. The only downside is that there is way more legacy synth engines on the MC101, so its hard to justify getting a Juno Boutique.
