you go get the camera, I get the popcorn, GO!

They all seem to be limited runs (I mean, no synth is made forever but these do seem more limited than normal), but there’s not much indication as to how many they make of each or when they run out. The first set of three Boutiques were the JU-06, JP-08 and the JX-03. The first two were pretty popular (especially the Juno repro) and they’re long since sold out. The TB-03 was part of a later wave but it’s also been very popular - I think in this case they might be making more of them though. Some retailers in the UK seem to still be taking orders for it with a delivery date of October, so it looks like they’re expecting more stock. And PMT seem to have them in stock at £324.

Conversely the TR-09 can be picked up for a little over £200. Some stuff works much better in the Boutique format than others…

That’s funny, considering the TR09 is a more faithful emulation than the TR08

I don’t care what anyone says online… To my ears, the TR08 is a FAIL (regret ever buying it) and the TR09 is pretty usable. YMMV as always though

Yeah the TR09 is totally underrated and amazing value for the low price.
I cant hear any difference on my 909 and 09 and i never used individual outputs anyway.

Yeah it seems to sound great, maybe the lack of individual outs and a bit of shift-button / menu diving puts people off. (I’ve not used one personally.)

I was going to sell my TR-09 now that I bought the TR8s… Might keep the little bugger now!
And yes they do sound amazing. What ever it is that ACB actually does, it works.

I’d just put my TB-03 up for sale on eBay as they ran a Max £3 fee over the weekend.
Might take it down and wait for the prices to rise before selling now

Too many strange compromises on design (but begrudgingly I do appreciate the sound )… why would the Juno-106 one only have 4 voices, its a danged DSP chip, Roland!

I’m pretty sure that the Boutique synths all have the same single FPGA ACB chip that the System-1 has two of. With two chips the System-1 can do 4 note poly, max, at 96khz. So with one chip the JU-06 (and the JP-08) can’t exceed that same four note polyphony and to make even that possible it only runs at 44.1 khz. The boutique PCB actually has room for a second FPGA but obviously they made a cost decision.

The amount of processing it’s doing is quite significant though. The System-1 VST/AU plugin is very processor-hungry, I couldn’t run it on my old MacbookPro without it glitching. (The System 8 has three second-generation ACB chips, it’s quite a bit beefier again.)

I agree though, the 4-note polyphony limitation is what made me not buy one at the time. Regret it now. I was hoping that they would do a 106 plug-out for the System-1 but they ended up saving it for the System-8.

Gosh, I am still so on the fence about the system 8… I just got and repaired a Juno-106 for $100 so I am pretty thrilled ! I was also interested in trying the plugins (Jupiter, played in once in real life and it was sweet) but the cost and resources needed turned me off a bit… Roland, to me, is the most frustrating synth maker in the world. When I was in college I had an SH32 (still do) and it really was the sound of my band… now that I have the Juno, I was able to almost instantly recreate that sound (preset 11 on both units are similar) and I was so happy… I just want more Roland in my life and they are making the decision very frustrating (although I have to think it will be an eventual system-8, still want a module/rack version).

Yeah, I spend s ton of time on r/synthesizers… I always saw those folks who got amazing garage sale deals  and I was jealous until my friend just gave me his Juno! He bought it for 2k, put (he says) about 2k more into it (new power, battery modified, voice chips serviced twice, etc.) and he complained it always “freaked out” so he just bought another one… well, as anyone could find with a cursory internet search, the Juno has issues with voice chip coatings… he said it was serviced but I tested it and sure enough chip 6 was funky. Opened it up and chips were still sealed in black plastic junk! So, I found a dude in Rochester, NY who did an amazing job of cleaning the chips and installing sockets all for $100. I am in LOVE with the sound of this thing. I have a Prophet 6 and the Juno really gives it a run for the money (even with a single osc).

I’ll give you $200 for it.

Just bought the TB-03 from GuitarGuitar in the UK. Bought a red 101 last month as well.

Would people be upset if they produced loads more of the best selling boutiques? I wish they would. I sold my JU-06 to fund my digitakt.

seems like a waste not to make more ju-06’s since they are in demand and customers are then buying used. producing more of the same should be easy.

It all depends on the minimum amount they need to produce in a production run, and if they estimate they can sell that minimum amount. If they have to make more than they think they can unload in a timely manner to do a production run it won’t happen.

I would like to see these become more available. 5000 or so units doesn’t really seem like enough given how popular these botique units have become.

Was it really only 5000 units of each? surprisingly low amount if so.

The Juno is the pick out of the original boutiques. Closest sound to original Imo and best interface for size. A keeper. Also got a jx03, it is ok as well. Tried the jp08, a bit ridiculous unless controlling via midi. Of the newer ones, I like the TB & SH but not enough to purchase with other owned options already in those areas. The drum machines seem a bit redundant when Machinedrum and Rytm are so good & the TR8s is same price as buying both. Maybe the D05 will find a temporary home for sampling purposes though. At least the software is available for the sold outs, though subscription method is a greedy joke.

They are making more, in the cloud…

I mean any one who really want’s to try a Juno sound can just buy the much cheaper software emulator. Sounds pretty much identical to the real thing.
