Roland GO:KEYS 3 and 5 music creation keyboards

I couldn’t find a thread related. So here we go.

im thinking about swapping out my casio ct-s1 for one of these guys, seems like a good way to get back some of those roland tones i forfeit when i sold my mc-101. wondering about the keys tho, as they are not described as “Full size” on sweetwater, just “Box shaped and touch sensitive” so im wondering how they compare to full size keys, if there is any difference!

All this stuff and the increasing tendency to put generative and random things in everything musical makes me very sad.

I’m waiting for the ZEN-Core coffee pot.

I’ve got the FP-E50 which has the Supernatural and Zen Core and it’s really fun to have access to that engine on a piano.

It’s not really tweakable like it would be on a regular synth though.

If it took MIDI program change messages to dial in coffee blends, I’d be all over that!

are you referring to the auto-accompaniment aspect? i dont think its generative, its canned chord progressions, says the copy on sweetwater.

edit: yeah seems like a fairly typical accompaniment feature, sure they do use the phrase “generate” in there but that seems like a fairly generous (ha) use of that word considering the modern context of generative music. maybe melody accompaniment is a more advanced take on the classic formula? im not sure. i would be surprised if Roland went the extra mile there

yeah i just want those sounds in a full sized, semiweighted/touch sensitive keyboard. im no sound designer

Looks like a decent arranger keyboard for the synth crowd. To be frank, it looks way more appealing than that Arturia-Nest contraption.

I think you can’t edit the sounds with these but I’m not sure if you can with the “nestlike” looking one :grinning: I have no idea.

But this thing really sounds nice and looks simple but not as “empty”. I think they did a good job of utilizing the space. The price is super appealing too…

I wonder if you can upload patches that you create on your computer with Roland VSTs. Does anyone know anything about it? It’s a bit vague on the website. Because if it is so, then it means it’s almost exactly like Arturia Nest.

And it would be nice if it had a few macro knobs…

I don’t get these products other then being resources being wasted.
It’s made lightweight but it’s still bulky that all you got for less weight is crappy keys.
Who wants that? And if you do you shouldn’t. No really you shouldn’t.

have you taken any time to try to understand them first? give me the run down why i shouldnt want this.

background: playing piano since 7 years old, make music everyday, dont care about synthesis, dont care about “piano action keys” or key weight, have very large hands so i prefer full size keys, like easy access to sound, have limited space, limited funds.

Don’t quote me but I think with Roland Cloud subscription, you can do it. I am not really a YouTube review watcher but I wonder if anyone reviewed this thing.

If you don’t care about keys than why buy something with keys in the first place?
But if you care about keys than why buy keys that feel so terrible and not something decent at least?

i dont care about key weight, i dont like how synth action keys are easily broken, i like big keys because i have big hands, i like keys because i play my music live when im using a big keyboard. what makes them feel “terrible” to you? have you used them?

yup you can! i watched this video and its starting to sell me even more.

more polyphony, more sounds, more expansion opportunity, roland FX, lots of key sensitivity settings, splits/layers, all better than similarly priced keyboards. im kinda in.

That guy will try to sell anything so I’m not even gonna watch it. They fact he’s talking about key sensitivity settings already feels like a red flag given how bad the keybed is.

I’ve tried the Phantom 06 last week and wasn’t impressed with the sounds. (same sounds I believe) I much rather get one of the old school JV rack series and play those sounds with decent keys.

alrighty ill keep your preferences in mind while making my decisions

I might be a bit too harsh on the product. But only because I was already shocked at the first release. I couldn’t sell this to clients who asked for decent lightweight keys. There has to be a limit somewhere. :stuck_out_tongue:
