I was thinking about this with sequenced FX vectors in Logic - so you could have the equivalent of very complex and evolving buss / send / insert vector automation configurations that loop around on any or all of the input channels for audio over usb for all sorts of rather crazy manipulations and effects.
This is a really cool performance with all the boxes. Kicks in around the 2min mark.
MIK
Rolandās version of Cenk there
To be fair apart from the horrible voice thing bits & some over use of fx, there are parts of that demo that are pretty good ⦠You can see how the TR-8 could be fairly banging as a hands on live techno machine.
Really looking forward to Elektron coming up with some fresh RYTM demos now - stock stuff like kick snare claps & hats patterns ⦠Otherwise I might have to buy a TR-8
if it werenāt for the RYTM I would probably be on a AIRA pre-order list. But in the demos iāve seen the RYTM can produce an entire track all by itself. That FM BD synth is going to be amazing for bass lines. I hope the RYTM sequencer also includes Slide parameter just like the Octatrack.
I preordered the TR8, but i have to say i really didnāt like any of the Live perfomances with it so far.
Man in al the demos these sound likeā¦dare I sayā¦pretty BAD 808 and 303 emulations. The 303 in particular just sounded like a any other really cheap emulation. Not much better than rebirth. I am no Acid expert though, but not really impressed with the sound. Just another digital VA 808 and 303 to me, but pretty non-innovative as they stick to the basic params of those original units.
All of the āofficialā videos are crap.
Yup. But Sonicstate ones are good. And this:
Oh and this is also cool: http://youtu.be/H4Ol1_qOI_g Listen to what he does at around 8:30ā¦
I think xoxbox sound better than new Roland 303 style machine.
I have to admit that the TR-8 looks quite attractive to me, after having ignored it since launch because its ājust digitalā. The TR-8 seems really spot on to me with all you need on the surface. It does all I need from a drum machine, not less not more.
For the last years, Iāve been using either the MD or the OT as drum machines, filled with 808/909 samples in pretty simple, straight-forward, live-programmed drum patterns. So why not use a simple, straight-forward device instead? Or just leave everything as is.
$500 for a modeled 808/909? I donāt think so. The interface seems nice but these sounds can be had anywhere. I still use my Roland R8 mk2 which I think sounds better than most Tr-808/909 samples out there. Roland has been re-doing these 808/909 samples for 25 years in various drum machine/groove boxes. My money will be spent on either the Analog RYTM or the Octatrack!
my thoughts exactlyā¦I already own the OT but RYTM is tempting
Latest in the Roland line up is a Syncbox - for CV / GATE, DIN SYNC and PULSE CLOCK
You can:
- select source from DIN, MIDI, USB, INT
- select 24ppqn or 48ppqn for each din out
- switch āpolarityā (must be for gate)
- switch ātransposeā H/M/L (sounds like an octave setting for the CV)
- tap the TAP button (adding tap tempo functionality to any seq using DYNCsync, Gate trigger, or midi)
the Roland Sync sounds good but what would have been over the top is if it had a Swing knob on it.
First german reviews are coming in from ppl who have seen, heard and touched it. Even some hardcore deniers were among them. They also say that the TR8 isnt a 808/909ā¦but a really fat great sounding drummachine that can push the floor. If you take it as that, you wont be disappointed so much.
Roland MC-307 was ambitious too back in its day but sadly, most of us would have none of it because it was expensive and gimmicky $#!%.
Itās hard living off your old successesā¦makes you want to have it all over again butā¦
D16 Group plug-ins will actually be cheaper, easier to use, more portable, and retain their value over timeā¦
Cheers! to Elektron and Overbridgeā¦

I donāt ever take it at thatā¦I must see and hear myself. Though I admit I did break my own rule on the Analog Rytm with very limited see/hear taking place. Iāve never done that before thoughā¦I did not do that when it came to the OT or the A4.
That being said, I couldnāt really be disappointed as it is a new device and it hasnāt been hyped or priced high.
Sound aināt great, but best video Iāve seen so far
GCGās videos are nice, quite refreshing actuallly to see someone jaming and having fun, far away from all the grunts you can read on some boards⦠You know, enjoying musicā¦
There was the sync box in that video they presented at MESSE, I donāt recall anyone spotted itā¦
And more system-1 here :
