Maybe a little bit off topic, but still related to the USB-C capabilities of these series:

  1. Is it possible to connect a USB micro like the Rode NTS mini to these devices via USB port, as Audio in?

  2. Is there any compact mixer with Audio in via USB port? I see nowadays many new devices being able to send audio via USB, and a mixer with both traditional and USB input would come very handy.

It serves as a wake up call to people prone to compulsive buying.

And it also serves as a good resource to people trying to replicate some sounds with affordable tools without being overwhelmed with tons of machines collecting dust in a room or emptying their wallet.

I used to make music with a pentium 90 running DOS and fasttracker II and impulse tracker. Some where doing the same with Protracker on Amiga or Cubase on Atari ST. It is sane to reminds people that you can make decent music with a second hand 10y old laptop that is already millions times better in term of processing power and a free or cheap DAW/tracker and a few VSTs.

You don’t have to watch all his vids though and I am not a fan o his way of talking/phrasing out his criticism. But I understand people pasting the link whenever a new device is released to contain overall excitement. I was kind of excited when I looked at the early previews of these machines but a few weeks later, and even without watching this, I must admit that excitement has deflated totally.

These machines are nice and small and battery powered but a standalone one is not complete enough to do anything of value, and the set of 3 or any combination of one + another hardware package is not portable enough to be useful while travelling. They share the same issues as the Volca (although you could argue that you could make almost complete songs out of a Volca Sample). To be useful you need to build a complete chain and at that point, it doesn’t make any sense from a space nor from a budget point of view. I also drank the Volca Koolaid once, had the idea to build my own suitcase setup with several of them then realised by looking at other people setups the mess it really is compared to using less but more powerful tools.

Really just if you prefer the sounds, ST has much more going on.

Hey there - Can you play the chords/arps on the JU6 with an external keyboard?

I just tried hooking up the t8 and j6 to my aira mx-1 mixer using the usb to usb c link.

Unfortunately it doesn’t seem to work like the boutiques and other aira products like the tr8s/mc707 etc.

With those all you need to usb and it syncs up and audio gets sent through it. A little disappointing since that would make these all the more convenient!

Maybe I’m doing something wrong, anyone else have luck syncing them with the mx-1?

Hi, the manual state that you can turn aira link mode on or off on the aira compact. Worth a shot

This did it! Just have to turn it off and on again after changing the setting. Thank you!

I picked the T8 up today and for me and the music I like, it’s instant fun. Sounds really good to.

B-stock is risky, they don’t always re-check the items before pushing them out to new buyers.

You are very welcome ! As a mx-1 user it’s good to know it is working :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi Daren. How are you still liking the J6? Any examples of what you’re using it for?

Yeah its nice, I mostly just use it as a easy way to add chords in a portable setup, I really like the sequencer on it which can be used for single notes as well as user defined chords, I don’t really use the styles/arps too much personally but I guess they are handy to have. I did not record anything with it yet, I have just been using the J-6 and T-8 for messing around sofa jams.

I know I wasn’t asked but the T8 is by far my favorite of the two I picked up yesterday. The J6 I’m still learning how to use. Pattern creation for me isn’t flowing as easily or smoothly.

Also, I’m struggling to make it sound “techno”. Don’t ask what that means, it’s just something I hear.

What would be nice on the J6, is an auto advance step sequencer like the SH01A. I could get a bit more random.

But to be honest, I haven’t sync’d it up to something with a beat yet.

The presets are, well, presets.

For J-6 I just set it to 16th note resolution mostly, then usually 16 or 32 steps, then hit the step (1-8) press a chord or note, hit next step until all 8 done, then turn the dial to get to steps higher than 8, it gets pretty easy the more you do it. With the dial you can move back as well as forward too.

One thing I found with the T8 is that when sequenced from an external device, the hats don’t choke. Is that a Roland oversight?

Also, sequencing the bass synth from an external source just doesn’t sound the same. Slides are off.

I’ve looked in the manual but it’s not clear to me - are the chord sets in a particular musical key? Is this something you can set? I assume it must be…

These are so insanely playable and direct, love them.

Want moooooorrreee !!!
