Looks like Roland has released a new Aerophone, this time aimed at flautists.
Good on Roland for making the investment and working through all the design and development to make this !
This also looks more like a flute to the audience, than the Aerophones looks like a saxophone.
What next ?
Oboe
Bassoon
French horn
Sarrusophone
??
Would absolutely love an Aerophone Oboe, personally. But I think after this it’s time for an electronic brass instrument instead, although I’ve no idea how that’d work from a playing technique perspective.
Tuba!
There’s been a couple, they are generally referred to as EVIs or Electronic Valve Instruments.
The Berglund NuEVI is the most popular one in the space at the moment.
US Pricing: $1759.99 (pre-order pricing at B&H and Kraft Music)
Weight
415 g 15 oz
That’s pretty light.
I was looking around for the ergonomic vertical headjoint option.
The NuEVI and the Digibrass Tilt (from currently available options) are both quite different compared to playing for example a trumpet, and require quite a bit of practice on their own. Some fundamentals do translate, but for the most part you are playing a different instrument.
While definitely both viable options for something more brass-like, I wouldn’t say they are electronic brass instruments as such.
Can it Ruck Zuck?
(I’m going to be grumpy and say that’s no flute (Aerophone Brisa), it’s a weird trumpet)
Have been thinking more about this, from the perspective of a non-flute player.
The embrochure part will be quite a lot easier than a real acoustic flute.
I’ve got the whole breath / fingers / tongue coordination thing already as a life time wind player.
The fingering for me shouldn’t be too bad as a sax and recorder player, with either the Brisa or the Flute fingering modes.
Maybe it would be fun from that perspective. ( Obviously i am not expecting to learn to play an acoustic flute on it, especially not the embrochure. )
There must be a few out there reading this who already double flute / sax that might consider this as well.

ASIDE : There are also two one handed fingering modes, Left and Right.
That might be interesting combined either with the free hand on some other controllers. BUT – How do you hold the Brisa with one hand ??
Flute embrochure is not difficult at all. If you can play a beer bottle you can play a flute. Getting rid of the mouthpiece removes (IMO) the most interesting part of the flute.
On the other hand, maybe the thing to do is record myself blowing into a beer bottle and time stretch it on my OT.
