I have a very narrow question. I saw some other threads about RME interfaces but Discourse was warning me that the thread was 4 years old.
If anyone has an RME interface, could you do me a favor. How fast does an RME interface without ethernet and the new web platform startup? I mean, does the 802 FS start up in seconds? I have a Motu and it takes closer to a minute because it basically has to boot a computer (I assume to make the web interface happen). By boot I mean, the host computer sees it as an audio in/out; it’s ready.
In this video they mention that the 12mic pre is going to this “new platform”. Do you think that all RME interfaces will have a network port and be slower to startup? I wonder if this is the direction that they are going in.
The Babyface Pro FS takes about two seconds, the UCX II about the same although it does take about five seconds for the splash screen to disappear on the interface LCD.
Can’t help you with any of the network stuff though, sorry! I do MIDI over ethernet through a MioXM though and that interface starts up instantly too. I would’ve thought it’d all be about implementation and RME don’t seem to do much unless they think it’s going to be on point.
I have a Babyface as well. I only use Totalmix. Didn’t know about the new web platform (don’t have any use for it). I’m not sure of your exact question because it doesn’t take time to startup. I have my Babyface plugged into the builtin hub on my Dell monitor ( Dell UltraSharp U2723QE). Then thunderbolt to my Macbook Air M2. So, when I plug in my Macbook to thunderbolt, the Babyface turns on and I get sound. If I restart the Macbook, the Babyface turns on with the Macbook. There is no wait. As for a new platform, I would imagine that RME will have backwards compatibility just like they always do (so you can also use Totalmix). I’m thinking the ethernet is for multiple interfaces. I also use an old RME Fireface to get 8 extra ins and outs thru ADAT and that is also immediate.
I’m interested in this Motu problem. Which Motu? And it takes time to boot everytime? Is that when you startup your computer, or just anytime you get your computer out of sleep mode? Also, are you sure the only interface for the sound card is web based? Or is that just the best one? I would rather not use web based interfaces in my system. Hopefully I understood your question.
I use my UCX II mostly as a audio routing device, not connected to a computer, with Durec when I want to record my jams. I think under 5 seconds is right for me. Most of my synths take longer to boot.
Yeah, mine may take a few seconds to startup and I don’t even notice. It might take that long for me to log into my MacBook. So, it seems instantaneous.
