Legendary musician and producer Quincy Jones has died:

What a career – the list of hits he composed, arranged, played on and produced is jaw dropping. One of the musical greats of our time.

RIP Quincy! Short side story - A few years ago i was working at NAMM and one day after the show, a customer took us to Burbank, showing us a studio they had set up according to Quincy Jones’ wishes. It was really impressive, including it’s own cinema. The studio space was also used by other producers and the guy we went with showed us some really good Dido music which is a lot better than her usual stuff but still hasn’t been released to this day as far as I know. It sounded huuuuuuge.

Legend doesn’t even begin to cover it.

Aside from everything else, this clip of Quincy and Herbie jamming on a Fairlight is one of my favourite things on the internet.

Damn man. Was just talking to my students about him.
To go from the days of band stands to creating one of the most successful pop albums while remaining a successful and sought after musician through out all of it, makes him one of the all time greats. Lot of people don’t know it, but he was also a TV/Movie producer and got Opera (Color Purple), and Will Smith (Fresh Prince) their big shots. One went on to become a billionaire, and the other one of the gighest grossing actors in Hollywood, and who also sucker punched Chris Rock after having a psychotic melt down.
Man what a legend. Sad day.

He was a musical giant. One of those few whose contribution to music is difficult to overstate. True legend.

Legendary. Modern day standard for what genius should be considered in music.

Quincy Jones truly lived his life like “tomorrow can’t wait” and thus he did so many things “today” that the legacy of his tomorrow is now running through the veins of nearly every aspect of the entertainment industry.

To this genius creator, and this irreplaceable influence of multiple disciplines and on multiple generations, even now, may the good of your work continue to carry you farther than your feet ever could.

RIP, huge inspiration. My favorite part of his output is his soundtrack work. So many killer scores from the mid 60s to early 70s. The Pawnbroker, In The Heat Of The Night, In Cold Blood, They Call Me Mr. Tibbs, and many more.

Bone chilling:
