Rest easy Juan. He was a legend and a pioneer.
That’s really sad ![]()
When I was young this interview with Juan was very inspiring, the way he worked before he rose to prominence resonated with me as I used some of the same techniques using tape decks, anyway it is a good read if you have not seen it.

Rip maestro
Agreed, way too early, but what a catalogue of groundbreaking and innovative work he has left us with.
Thank you Juan.
Rest in Peace Legend Maestro. He was one of the first Detroit’s techno i saw Dj’ing in the 90s as Model 500. This is very shocking.
In Detroit for the first time. Came for the incredible Interdimensional Transmissions event then woke up to this sad news ![]()
RIP legend ![]()
A couple of weeks ago his gig locally got cancelled due to health reasons. Derrick May played the same night in another club but the organizers planned a surprise visit to Juan’s party, I am wondering if that would have been the last time they see each other?
I assumed he would not have to continue elsewhere. Also thinking because a few other similar situations this year, how fucked up the music business has gotten that absolute legends have to keep on gigging at a fragile age to keep the bills paid.
Safe journey to the stars, maestro.
RIP
I bought the Deep Space album when it came out and rediscovered it a year ago. I was blown away by how fresh it still sounds. He was ahead of his time and pushed techno in all kinds of directions.
Damn, rip, one of the best.
That was the first issue I got of a pro audio mag as a kid, and it was interviews like his that’s responsible for the room full of gear in my house.
