Jazz legend died today at 84.
Beat me to it. Rest in peace, Chuck!
what made him a genius in my opinion is he was a master of crafting music that could be played in many ways and still translate, you could play this song in a reggae style, funk style, latin style, soul, hell even country anything and it would translate remarkably
I like a zany jazz guy. Not just a normal cool cat but that guy who had a personality to back it up.
This is like, the mold for Hawaiin shirt trumpet players the world over and on top of that a real talent with the flugelhorn.
RIP buddy, this week will hopefully end without another passing.
This hits hard because when I was a broke college student in 2005 and an MPC 1000 his records were so cheap to buy and sample. No matter where the needle dropped it was sample worthy.
RIP Chuck
to this day you cannot not run into his record in any spot you dig
I grew up in Rochester NY, Chuck’s hometown. His niece Ardis Mangione was my high school history teacher (Gap Mangione’s daughter).
RIP to a true local legend.
Love Chuck! May he rest in peace!
