Eh you can skate by sometimes. I found out I didn’t have enough power on paper to power my live rig about a month after I had been using it, then one time I was rehearsing and discovered I needed a bit more juice than I had available lol. Trial and error, and he’s a big boy, he knows what he’s doing mostly
No, very bad idea.
If one port outputs little more than the other (12V in one ves 12.001V in the other) due to components tolerance or pure simply chance, you will be sending power from one port to another with the OT in the middle of that mess.
CIOKS does sell this cable and notes that the outputs from the supply must be isolated, which they are in the DC7 and PowerMax.

Would be enough to power the OT, Digitakt, etc at 7W or the hungry Syntakt at 12W
Got to admit, when I saw that bit of Ricky’s video I winced. He didn’t even check the OT current draw before plugging in, or the details of the power supply max distribution load combined across all outputs.
Just because polarity, voltage and barrel plug size line up doesn’t mean it’s a slam dunk unfortunately.
IMO… not worth the risk, unless you know for sure that the third party PSU has more than enough juice, just find a way to get the standard device power supplies to work with the pedalboard somehow.
He’s working for Elektron and might have unlimited repair service budget.
Ehh, the only risk is that the power supply won’t provide enough current. And there are enough battery modded OTs and DTs out there that can’t provide enough current when the battery dies, and I haven’t heard of anyone saying that a low battery killed their device.
Not always, but usually, undercurrent won’t damage anything, just make things not work quite right.
He’s likely mapped all of that out before shooting. The posted video is always just an end product after likely lots of planning and out-take
I have a DC7, Cioks 4 & an Eventide Power Max. I’ve always mapped things out in advance of plugging anything in. There’s also light indicator to gauge when you’re maxing out.
I think only the first time I got it I was worried, but the printed diagrams on the DC7/Power Max are a great help. They’re not printed on the Cioks 4, but it does come with stickers.
EDIT: Yeah, no planning. Sorry - feel free to ignore my non-contribution here.
Didn’t sound like that at all from his commentary on the video. It was all very on-the-fly … “ooh, look what I found in this box I wonder if it works … oh … wrong sized plug”. He was checking polarity though I think.
Yeah, I stand corrected. Just watched and yeah a bit scary.
I was genuinely terrified throughout that entire segment. I know he could probably just get it repaired for free or very cheap since he works for Elektron but he was so casual about the possibility of frying it!
I power my OT and Syntakt from a CIOKS. I emailed with them before hand. Works great. You have to use the couplers and have the voltage setting correct before plugging them in
If a device draws more current than a dedicated PSU can supply, the device won’t work (or it may work but potentially with intermittent faults)… but it’s not like a ‘major hazard’ unsafe. And I can believe Volcas would work fine with a CIOKS as the Volcas are pretty low power devices.
My only point is that Ricky didn’t seem to check any of this, he was like ‘ooh this fits and it’s the right polarity and voltage, let’s go’ which struck me as a triumph of optimism over caution, let’s put it that way…
That’s good to know, thanks. Although the key point here is you clearly checked this out thoroughly in advance of plugging them in!!!
I’m pretty sure Ricky was having fun with it and followed a preconceived script for entertainment value…
Yes, probably, opening up the OT manual to check the current draw then having a look at the CIOKS manual etc etc wouldn’t be the most exciting video moment…
Riiiiiiiiiiiicky, is the Digitrakt 2’s Slicing Precise, or the same as the DT1?
normalization? anyone?
I think that got a “no” from an elektron employee on the official announcement thread.
EDIT: oh, in reply to you. Sorry.
you can do that new trig pools mode to set up precise slices I think and then play them in or whatever I think
