Rhodes MK8

That’s exciting. What is the configuration you chose ? Any specific color ?

The number nostromo had was 7036, and someone else had a number in the low 7000s, so it looks like Rhodes Music may have started the sequence in somewhere around 7000. Is your number way different than that ?

I know from experience with other preorders ( like Kickstarter for example ), your order number and your priority can be very different.

I went for the white and walnut combo, i think it just looks beautiful and timeless!

I also have a number in the 7000s but i have also seen another guy with a number in the 6000s. Assuming people from all over the world as well as music studios and artists are interested in Rhodes Pianos i’m sure the order numbers are in the Thousands for sure. The question is: How will they go about that? Will they ramp up production in 2023 after the first 500 then to meet the demand?

These look amazing. I’m in the group of people that would someday love to have one as a centerpiece in my house, but that will not be soon. I too will have to settle for Keyscape.

huh… keyscape looks nice. for the foreseeable future, my rhodes/electric piano go to combo will be arturia analog lab v and varispeed vsts (both free). is it the same experience? no.

I like seeing which color combos people are buying.

I think I would roll with this color combo if I ever got one.

I’ve got no chance to buy mine this year or next, but this is my future MK8

Sonic TALK #690 – Nick, Dave, Matt, and Rich discuss the Rhodes MK8.

Rich has a ton of informed things to say, having played a Rhodes since 1972. His take on the new electronics is worth noting especially. He also has an inside look at who will be gigging this.

I think I like the classic color scheme.

Hi there, we are only building 500 next year, so don’t worry. Please contact hello@rhodesmusic.com and we will make sure we address the password issue for you. Hope this helps. And big thanks for ordering an MK8!

just curious, but are you popping into other online communities, and if so, where?

i find it interesting when reps from other companies hop in here to interact with folks but am also not surprised, because this place is generally very positive and welcoming.

regardless, thanks for engaging. it’s nice to see.

He picked a good forum to pop in on.

Another one that i visit is overwhelmingly negative on the MK8 - would not be a productive use of his time, imo. They’re mostly older guys who can only think “can I use this on my weekend warrior/classic rock cover band gig”.

rhodes stage 73 has been at the top of my wish list ever since I first heard it.
now that spot is occupied by the mk8.
dream on

Could it be that only the first 500 people who subscribed on Rhodes website got a priority access with an access code to order the MK8 ?

Would that be a sensible thing to do ? You’d think priority gets assigned when you pay.

Just speaking as someone who has done new products. You ramp up production over a period of time, so that you catch mistakes when they are much easier and cheaper to fix. So 500 in a year, approximately 40 per month, may only start as 15 the first month ramping up to 65 in the last month, so in year two you have a lot more capacity. It’s very important to get the first production runs right, and to learn. There is a lot of engineering and development that goes into manufacturing.

Osmose, another product with a high level of mechanical complexity, is in that process right now. Actually it has been in process for quite a while, and they’ve not shipped a unit. The pandemic does make things more difficult as well. Expressive E is working hard to make sure they do it right, and i appreciate that.

@JD73 when will we see and hear the MK8 in action in some videos? Also some artist who present some playing on it? I hoped that you would share some more info with the official launch on december 1st.

Hey @Crysis (sorry don’t know your real name)- hope all is good. We are prepping (and have just finished editing) a lot of audio and video, and many artists (including myself) have filmed clips playing the prototype MK8. We will have some very juicy bits very soon indeed so I think you’ll be very happy. Thanks for your patience and if you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.
