Reverb tail as parameter lock cuts out

Total noob question here. Just starting out with OT. I have a one bar pattern and want to add reverb to one of the trigs as a parameter lock. I want a long reverb tail. However, the reverb tail is cutting out with the following trig i.e. it doesn’t die away naturally, but is cut off by the next trig. Am I doing something wrong? Is there away to have a natural reverb tail?

Hoping you can help.

Thanks, in advance, for your patience.

There are 2 mix modes for Dark and Plate reverbs, in FX2 SETUP page.
MIX = MIX (dry / wet)
MIX = SEND

For long tail use SEND mode and plock MIX (send) in FX2 page.

Hi - thanks for replying. As far as I can tell, that’s what I’ve done. I’ve set fx2 as reverb send and p-locked send amount on trig 15. But when it gets to trig 1 the reverb tail cuts off abruptly. The workaround I’ve found is to put trig 15 on a separate track.

Consider the trig is triggering all settings. Therefore it will trig the reverb settings from start state which does not include the previous trigs tail.

Yep. Maybe something wrong with reverb time.
If default track time is short, trig 15 longer time plock will be shortened by trig 1.

Okay - I see. So trig 1 is turning down the reverb send. I think therefore my options are two create a separate track or use a thru track. Does that sound right?

Not right. Tracks are precious. MIX (send) don’t cut the tail. Maybe you are confusing send and return. So, if you want a long reverb on a specific trig :

Fx2 setup
MIX = SEND

Fx2
MIX = 0
Plock the specific trig with MIX (send) = 64
Adjust track default reverb time and other parameters
Adjust plocked MIX value

Don’t plock any other FX2 parameter at first.

Hi sezare56,

I’ve done as you suggested. MixF is on SEND, and reverb tail still cuts out when I get back to trig 1 again. Not sure what I’m doing wrong. Doesn’t seem to work as I expect an effect send to work.

Yeah again trig 1 is going to cut it off cause its like you’re starting the reverb effect over again.

There might be workarounds depending on what you’re doing. My first advice would be to use scenes and crossfader which (i think) supercedes everything except plocks (therfore remove plocks and assign scene to reverb send).

Or maybe a well laid out combo of trig conditions: fill for reverb send, not-fill for trig 1.

It shouldn’t stop with the settings I gave, considering you start with default settings.
Please test with a new project, Dark or Gate reverb.

Hi Sezare56 - just tried again with a blank project. Exactly the same thing.

MixF is Send
Plock on Trig 15 to 65 of Mix
Time to 65

Exactly the same.

But I have found a solution. If I p-lock trig 1 to the same reverb time but the mix is fully down then only trig 15 is affected. In other words the reverb stays open.

Agree.

Don’t p-lock TIME at all.
But set TIME default (not p-locked) value as high as you want on trig15.
Then, on trig15, p-lock MIX only.
Tail should remains over next pattern cycle because of SEND is set - (MIXF).

But if default TIME value is other than p-locked on trig15 it changes at next pattern cycle and could give you impression of cutting - it is probably just decreases.

My experience says so.

Yeah, same reverb TIME. So don’t p-lock it at all, just set it by default the same for every trig.

WeirdFishes - thank you. Works a treat. I get it now. Thanks everyone for your input. Sorry to be useless. As I said. I’m new to this machine. Enjoying the challenge!
Best wishes, Old Timer.

Nope. :wink:

Sorry I wasn’t clear enough. I try to give the minimum informations to avoid confusion but…:slightly_smiling_face:
